Shooting at French Satirical Magazine

i bet this is what there doing is making the whole police force go to 1 location while they can do more planned attacks in other locations

I wonder if theres any significance to the police putting so much effort into evacuating the nearby civilians. Perhaps there is a threat greater than a some small arms?

If it is Mumbai style attack it makes sense why they didn't go in suicide style in the initial attack. Perhaps the plan was to escape and join back up with a cell and stage 2 of the attack can begin.

Not going to derail the thread but the hostage taker hadn't escalated the situation by killing a hostage, flying special forces in is better than sending in the police and there being civilian casualties, just as there were.

You'll probably find the anti terror/hostage police were trained by and regularly train with the SAS. They would use the same tactics but one has authority to arrest and kill in country and the other would require an executive order (as the SAS did in the Iranian Embassy siege here).

It's true actually.

The one hallmark of the ignorant I've noticed throughout life is a lack of nuance in thought & perspective.

Everything to them is an integer - decimals are nowhere to be seen.

It of course makes sense, it takes far less cognitive effort than to see the world in all it's complexity with linking & emergent systems - it's far easily to ascribe dualism based thinking to every single facet of life .

Agreed, realising everything is a shade of grey rather than there just being black and white seems to escape many people.

It's the whole "with us or against us" mantra.

I’ll be very surprised if the hostage survives this. The gunmen will know this is over and will want to maximise the shock. I hope they have shut down mobile networks and the premises internet, or there’s a chance the hostage gets beheaded and the video distributed from there before the reaches its conclusion.

I find it strange that the deputy Mayor of Paris said that this was France's 9/11 when interviewed this morning.

It's not even on the same scale unless this will escalate tremendously?

Your post reads like the self indulgent fart sniffing of a wanna be intellectual.

It's this mentality that has weakened Western civilization.

There may be shades of grey, its true. But a society cannot define itself by shades of grey, it needs black and white to set moral limits.
