What I do find odd in the media is how we label him as a mass murderer & discuss mental illness.
When the perpetrator is a Muslim the nature of the dialogue changes - in reality I'd argue they are all mentally ill deranged mass murderers (those willing to kill civilians).
I wouldn't, it is lazy and incorrect to just dismiss anything along these lines as 'mental illness' not to mention adding to the general stigma surrounding mental illness.
Plenty of people carry out atrocities without being mentally ill, they tend to have a rather extreme ideology. Do you think the Nazis were all mentally ill? Chinese communists? Soviets? Plenty of Islamic terrorists are not mentally ill, are well educated and can quite easily rationalise their actions within the framework of the ideology they subscribe to.
