Shooting at French Satirical Magazine

Can someone summarise what's happened today please?

I flicked the news on briefly earlier and they were saying that another person was holding hostages as a sort-of protest?

  • On Wednesday the two brothers Said and Cherif Kouachi murdered 12 people at Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris, and then went to ground.
  • On Thursday they emerged 80KM north in a small town, having stolen various vehicles. They robbed a petrol station, and then hid in a forest.
  • Meanwhile on Thursday morning another terrorist(s) connected to the two brothers murders a policewoman in Paris. The police named their suspects as Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene.
  • Today the two Charlie Hebdo brothers reappear this morning in an industrial estate near CDG airport, and take the 26yo manager of a printworks hostage.
  • Today at lunchtime the two terrorists who killed the policewoman on Thursday (Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene) have taken 6 hostage at a Jewish Supermarket.
  • The supermarket terrorists said that they'll kill their hostages if the police don't let the Charlie Hebdo terrorists escape freely.
  • The Kouachi brothers at the printworks were both killed by police. Mixed reports on whether the police went in, or the terrorists came out firing.
  • Shortly afterwards, the police go in to the Jewish Supermarket. Terrorist Amedy Coulibaly was killed. Terrorist Hayat Boumeddiene may or may not have been there, location currently unknown. There may have been a second male gunman there, location currently unknown. Four hostages were killed. Five or six hostages were photographed escaping. (Yes, four dead + five/six escaped doesn't match up with six hostages total. Unless there were more hostages than thought, or some terrorist(s) escaped with hostages).

Not so much arrogance more annoyance. If you don't know what you're reporting then why are you reporting it like that. Something as simple as the above fantasy gun instead of just calling it a gun makes me wonder what else this reputable news source fabricated.

Lame stream news are incredibly inept at a lot of things, and it's reporters just babble on about nonsense half the time which makes them look stupid. a lot of the problems, I'm sure, just come because of the attitude "we must be the first news company to give that story"

They are now running with this stupid story of a second gunmen escaping from the building, this is after for 4 hours they were telling us a female accomplice was inside as well after the police had a CCTV link to the inside of the store. Just incredibly poor reporting to be honest, if you don't know for certain, don't report it.

If they just called it a gun, some anoraks on this forum would say "Gun?! It's called an AK-47!"

It's understandable considering people have an insatiable appetite for 24-hour rolling news coverage, that information will not be accurate.

If you want more accurate information, buy a newspaper the following morning. Or if you want really accurate information, buy the book about it in a few years.

I'd prefere a vague statement over an inaccurate one but I see your point.

Who cares? They're just talking heads. Their job is to just to talk to camera without saying 'erm'.

This forum has an unsavoury amount of arrogance towards people who don't know about guns and cars.

They're reporters, their job is to report. Therefore having a clue what you're reporting wouldn't go amiss. :)

If I was a member of the public watching who might not know the specifics, I'd like to know what I'm being told is factual.

Radical Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri has been sentenced to life in prison by a court in New York for supporting terrorism.

He was convicted in May of multiple charges, including hostage-taking and plotting to set up a terrorism training camp in the US.

His trial followed a lengthy extradition process from the UK.

During the sentencing, his lawyers asked the judge to take into account his missing hands and eye.

They also argued a plan to imprison Abu Hamza in Colorado's Supermax federal prison would violate assurances the US made to judges in London to secure his 2012 extradition.

Prosecutors argued on Friday that the government never made such a promise to the UK and life in prison was the only appropriate sentence.

Judge Katherine Forrest called Abu Hamza's actions "barbaric" and "misguided".

There is apparently doubt if the girlfriend here is dead, at large or arrested.

Wow, BFM TV actually spoke with one of the brothers who confirmed he was affiliated to Al-Qaeda in Yemen.

While the supermarket gunman coordinated with them.
