I had a bit of a rocky time with uni courses and degrees. I didn't do terribly well in my A-Levels and as such went to uni on a Foundation Year doing Computing.

I passed the Foundation Year and was granted onto a HND Course (Computer Forensics and Security), absolutely hated it. Boring, way too much work and just generally wasn't enjoying it. Have now gone to a local college to do a Foundation Degree in Applied Computing which i am thoroughly enjoying. A Foundation Degree is the same level as a HND just a bit more practical based.

Only downside for me is that i have got to do it for 3 years part time due to Student Finance not giving me one more year of full-time funding.

Was just about to ask if anyone else was doing Applied Computing. In my second year. Really don't like it but might as well get the second year out of the way before moving on. :o

Get in there!

Dont think I ever got a letter grade, always just percentages at Lancaster. Maybe its just dependant on tutors?

Maybe it's because I'm doing it through a satelite site (B&FC).

It's easy enough to convert to percentages though, as the marks out of marks is also given.

What is 24 out of 24 in percent? :D

Had my Functional skills level 2 maths on Wednesday, got to wait till the 7th to find out if I pass. My nvq level 3 in health and social care is getting off to a really good start according to my teacher so that's good.

Hows everyone else doing?

And another two A+'s (100%)!

A+ for the "build" web development assignment. That means for the module overall I've got 92% - pretty chuffed with that!

And A+ for the "production" 2D Graphics assignment (worth 50% of the module).

Just waiting for the last 2D graphics assignment and the Academic and Digital Lliteracies assignment (worth 100% :-O ) to be marked and that's the first term over and done with.

Start back next Tuesday for three more modules:-

Creating multimedia content.
Scripting for the web.
Developing eXtensible data.

Can't wait to get stuck in again!

Didn't pass my functional skills level 2 maths test but I get to retake it every 4 weeks till I pass it:p
Got an email today from college to invite me for my access to university course, which is in feb.
Hows everyone else getting on:)

Did an electrical science exam today for my Mech Eng foundation year. Could possibly get 100% as long as I showed enough working and didn't make silly errors, as otherwise I felt like I knew it all :)

Did a maths for engineering exam on Wednesday and definitely won't get 100% but hopefully still reasonable :p

Some very clever guys/gals in here, I have never got 100% or an A in school or college. best grade I got was a D in English...hence me going back into education again, if only someone told me it was important when I was young haha.

I was exactly the same when I was young - I only got 2 B's and three C's at GSCE and a D and two E's at A-level - I just couldn't be ***** when I was younger - but as soon as I started working I flew and got promotion after promotion, sometimes I got a promotion before the money had been sorted out for the previous one!

Now I've matured (debatable I know!) and I've got focus and drive, I'm absolutely nailing Uni and this degree - I've already been asked if I'd like to lecture once I've graduated!

Difference is you seem really clever even though you didn't try:p
Im not expecting amazing scores from myself. As long as I pass everything in college that gets me into university ill be happy.

I wouldn't be so sure - you'll have learnt lots of different skills via life outside academia that will help when you return - just simple things like time management will put you at an immediate advantage in comparison to 18yr olds starting a degree.

Anyhow - good luck with it and keep us updated on how it goes!

I recently got my first grade back from my first unit - 86%. To be fair it's similar to what I do as my day job though (CAE).

I have a materials and engineering systems exam tomorrow. I've never studied so hard for something in my life, and I feel like I might actually do okay. Even if I scrape a 40, from what I can see in the unis marking policy, it won't count towards my degree classification at the end (that is if it's the lowest graded unit). So my final year might be:

86
70
65
60
70
40

And I'll still just scrape a first. With the 40 included, that would drag it down to a 2:1. It almost seems a bit cop-outish to me though (but I'll take what they're giving!).

Dont go to university its a complete waste of time and money

You will regret it once you leave and realise what a waste it was and how brainwashed you were to think that it would be worthwhile

No offence Mr Pickle, but what a load of horse excrement. Sure this might be true of those studying David Beckham BCs, or who just go to uni to avoid the working world for a few years, but is not the case for so many people.

The majority of people who've actually replied to this thread have been working for years and are taking up degrees to further and better themselves. Even young'ens who've replied seem to have a real sense of what they want to do, and getting their degrees will help hugely.

From my own experience, I did my undergrad degree and graduated 5 years ago and worked for a few years. I decided I wanted to further myself to move into a particular sector so did my masters. 3 months after graduating, I'm in my dream job which actually makes me tingle every time I think about what I get to do each day. There is no way I'd be where I am now if I took your advice.
