Are you a seat belt offender?

I am 42, I drove many yrs without a seat belt on. A good 20 yrs... I always found it uncomfortable.. Plus riding a motorcycle, gave it that psychological reasoning to not bother. But in the last 5yrs i forced myself to wear one and now its ok.. Took a while to get used to it, but i did in the end and i'm glad i did.

Admittedly when i get down my road, i still un-click as a little treat to myself to drive that last part in extra comfort.

I should also mention that whenever i get a car, I disable the seat belt chime cos it annoys the heck out of me...

That's OK. Because using statistics based on nothing, in the world of nowhere, you don't ever have accidents once you get close to the end of your journey.

I knew someone that actually went to the effort of getting a spare buckle from a scrap yard to trick the car into thinking he had his belt on. His reason for not actually wearing it- "seatbelts kill more people tHan they save" hmm....

Anyway, my one is always on with the exception of petrol pump to car park or vice versa like some others but not in any car with a warning bong. Feels a bit naughty doing so though.

Always wear one, always have done, always will.

If I have any passengers in my car, I'll always check they have their seat belts on before setting off, unless it's just family in which case I know they will.

Anyone who doesn't wear one that's not exempt for medical reasons or whatever, is an idiot. Anyone who gives the excuse of it being restrictive, uncomfortable or unsafe etc. is a ****ing moron. If you don't wear one, admit that it's just down to stupidity or ignorance, don't try to rationalise the decision.

it just doesn't feel right if I go to drive without the belt on
and I can never understand those that don't like them, once on I don't even notice it till I want to get out.

Steady there sailor. Don't you think its up to the individual to make his / her own decision, rather than the likes of you? Are you a control freak by any chance? I'm sure every individual who chooses to not wear their seat belt has mitigated the risks, likewise, every individual who jumps on a push bike or even better a motorcycle, takes on the knowledge that there's risk of being injured involved.

Even going one step further, I'm really happy that where I live (The state of Florida) the government gives the individual his or her OWN right to make the decision of wearing his or her own helmet on a motorcycle.

I do wear my seatbelt, once i get to the speed where if something happened, it would protect me. However if i'm crawling around at 20mph around my community, i prefer the comfort of not wearing one.

I highly doubt it, since how do you mitigate against other drivers?

I'm sure that works fine somewhere that any resulting healthcare is funded by the individual (or their insurance, which I can imagine would have certain stipulations/exclusions about injuries caused while riding without a helmet) rather than the state...

There has been the very rare occasion where I forgot to put it on, but essentially it's a habit to put it on, and I feel unsafe not wearing it. I'm not keen on either finding myself crumpled up in the foot well, or exiting via the windscreen.

I do. However an old boss of mine doesn't.

He had an accident when he was younger which he would have been killed had he been wearing a seatbelt. But on that occasion he was thrown from the car and escaped unhurt.

Thats his reasoning anyhow

A friend of mine is the same - was thrown clear in a crash when younger, which if he'd stayed in the vehicle he'd have been minced (it kept rolling and went off the edge of a drop, passenger cabin completely smashed in). Despite the massive luck involved in that, he never wears one to this day.

I always do. But then I also indicate when nobody's around. People are weird.

Not to mention a rear passenger not wearing a belt, garroting the front passenger in thier seat if not wearing one.

Car seats are quite strong but not strong enough to withstand 80 kilos hitting the back of them at 80mph.

That sort of scenario is freak though, I dont understand how peoplecan not uunderstand that. Plus modern cars are built much sturdier, roofs and pillars are now a structural part of the vehicle, not just a bit of metal and glass stuck to the body.

Take this video for example, what would happen if you didn't have a belt on with pre-tensioners?

Did you not read the 'massive luck' part of my post? I'm well aware it's mental.
