iRacing

I have a wheel stand pro going spare if you're interested. It has the plate to mount the G27 shifter to it.

Im tempted to try and get back into iRacing, havent touched it since the beginning of Sept and still have 3 months left and $125 on the account. Genius that i am, i bought the $100 credit + $25 free, and then got bored of practising alone.

I used to love LFS, i'd spent about 6yrs and for the majority of it there wasnt much time when i wasnt playing it 2-6hrs a day, day after day, cos there was friends there i could jump in and race with and have a laugh. iRacing is just so sterile and cold. Its a terrible service, and the only thing it has going for it is the fact that its become pretty much the only place you're likely to get consistently clean races, or to be more accurate, you wont find wreckers, rail-riders and intentional morons... just unintentional morons. Everywhere else you're pretty much wasting your time, or you have to enter organised races and plan when you want your fun for that week. You cant just decide you fancy a race at 3am and be confident you'll get a proper race.

The problem is nobody i knew is bothering with iRacing, they've either sold their wheel and are like me in that they need plenty of practice to be half-decent and not make school-boy errors, or they simply dont like the iRacing model of $$$ + $$$ + $$$ = game.

Would love to do a Spa 24h, of all the races i'd done, the 'endurance' ones were my favourites, i did the 2.4h Spa around August last year, twice on the Saturday and would have done more if the F1 didnt get in the way.

Bit disappointed theres been no new content added. Has there been any meaningful updates to the tyres? Are they still ice cold the first lap (or first 10 if its a night race) or have they addressed that so they're closer to operating temps? Seems like team racing is the only thing new (and fairly significant too).

How about an OcUK team? Maybe even sponsored by OcUK (officially or unofficially). I've got my own team and we have known each other for years, so if we run I won't be part of an OcUK team, but I don't see why an OcUK team couldn't work.

If not, there's always teams looking for drivers close to the event. The winners in our split was called "Eleventh Hour Racing" and was made up of as many people the owner could pull together in the week leading up to the event. In the end they had 9 drivers (we had 4 and would usually run a 24hr race with 3). To me it sounded like it should be chaos, but it worked out well and they didn't have a scratch on their car. We might have beaten them if I hadn't made a mistake and had a Ruf drive into the back of me (stunting our car of 10mph from about hour 3), but we didn't and they did a fantastic job to bring home a completely undamaged car.

I need to do more 'standard' racing myself. Though I've got a strong GPLRank, my iRating is poor due to the lack of normal races I've done. I lost my motivation to practice (we used to practice for weeks in advance of the GTP endurance races) and it grinds you down eventually. Perhaps I ought to get into it for a few more weeks and see if the spark can be reignited.

Yeah, thats not a bad idea.

I never did much endurance racing in LFS, i was never really fast enough to be in the team to begin with and our team was always one of the top 3, but we all used to jump on and do a few hours practice anyway, simply to add traffic and keep them motivated, rather than leaving them on their own.

Well that went pretty fast :D have a Wheel Stand Pro hopefully delivered by Friday, Monday at latest. Then made a deal which means I get G27, shifter and pedals tomorrow

I would highly recommend looking into the GTEYE spring mod for the G27 pedals (can be found on ebay) and perhaps further down the line a bodnar cable too.

I'll look into them but I need to learn to drive first.

Coming from someone who doesn't drive, this whole steering wheel for racing is pretty hard. Going to take me some practice to get anywhere near good.

There's a guy in Doncaster who manufacturers a similar spring with a rubber bush in it for more accurate feel. I have driven a sim rig fitted with it and it's a big improvement - http://www.nixim.com

I ordered one, then the day after it arrived murphy's law kicked in and I got offered some Fanatec Clubsports at a bargain price instead! Just waiting on a new load cell for it...

Before my first wheel (Logitech Momo Force (the good, red, original one)) I used a joystick with Grand Prix Legends, one of the more difficult driving sims. On the day I got that wheel I beat one of my hotlaps, but it took a while to get consistent.

Netkar Pro finished that wheel off - it's rather harsh forces driving over kerbs was rather infamous for killing wheels, though to be fair the wheel had had a good life.

Got a second hand Momo Racing as a temporary replacement for the GTP endurance racing. It wasn't nearly as good, but it sufficed. Eventually got the G25 when they were released. It's good there's now plenty of choice from the £100 upwards price point - once there was a couple of barely-there specialists (BRD, who's pedals I've used since before the Momo Force) and Logitech. Now you've got some genuine choices until you get well into the thousands.

Thought id ask in here, instead of the wheel thread as you guys are the kinds people i want feedback from.

I was looking at getting a t300 or tx when I got payed then buying seperate pedals as I know both the above come with crap pedals. Only the T500 comes with decent stock pedals.

Anyway I see OCUK have just put a decent offer on teh t500 which throws a spanner in the works. I was opting for one of thrustmaster wheels as i hear the FF is now better on the two newer wheels, Anyone know if this is true ?

Also i don't have a cockpit so would be mounting to my desk and taking down once finished a session this isnt to much of an issue with my current wheel g25.
Will this be fine with the t500 or is it a wheel like the CRW that really need hard mounting.

Also as anyone tried the new thurstamser wheels ? if so how do they perform on Iracing and how do they compare to the t500. I need to make my mind up by tomorrow when the deal runs out. I still cant pick one. each as pros and cons.

Main con for me with the t500 is its old now and the static flappy paddles.

All I can tell you is that I bought a T300 with the Ferrari wheel and I'm very pleased with it. I had a G25 before and the Thrustmaster is significantly better. No idea how it compares to the T500.

I intended to buy a decent set of pedals so never even unboxed the Thrustmaster ones. Haven't yet bought any so still using the Logitech pedals.

iRacing is pretty-much all I race these days and the T300 does me proud. Mine is permanently mounted but I seem to remember the clam looking fairly sturdy. Shouldn't be a problem to remove it when you're done racing.

I use a separate shifter but the paddles have a good feel to them.

Awwww yiss...

I'll probably lose it next race, so I took a screenshot for posterity :D

Well done on the 4K

I've got a T500, I've had it for three years now and it's a very good wheel. I should imagine that newer T500's have been tweaked over the years to be slightly improved and more reliable since the original release. I also suspect that the T300 is probably identical to the T500 inside and its only the pedals that aren't the same.

I also use the Fanatec Club Sport V2 pedals with my T500, they are a lot better than the stock pedals but the stock pedals are pretty good to start with.

Unless Thrustmaster have improved the desk clamping system since I bought mine, then I'd consider hard mounting it.

TYVM.

I normally race WSCS, although I decided to give it a miss this week as it's at Bathurst. I think it was the right choice. Bare in mind with the first video that all the incidents are from a single race

More like Wacky Racing.

Some properly dumb driving in that video.
