AMD - What can they do to improve?

AMD need to be taken over by serious money, they are too small, they dont have the financial clout and this really shows

AMD may be the #2 CPU company but they are by no means small, I don't understand where this forum mentality that they are some plucky underdog startup has come from over the years, when they are in reality a colossal corporate juggernaut. And ATi were THE dominant GPU company before 3DFX and then Nvidia hit the scene, today AMD is still bigger than Nvidia, they are just doing a much worse job with what they have.

They need to be setting the bar for performance, not playing catch up and playing the 'but it's cheaper' card 8 months after your competitors release.

They beat them and even more so you can buy two more or less for the price on one Titan.
You can see my benchmark results of R290X in crossfire, its an animal. :D

AMD's strongest point is it's price though as pointed out by Gibbo@launch and catches peoples attention.

AMD drove massively inflated gpu pricing way down, 290X launch price@£430 was about £80 cheaper than the slower 780-Nvidia's second fastest gpu.

Er you sure about that.

Based on money alone the newsagents on my street is bigger than RBS.

AMD have more employees, a bigger/nicer headquarters, etc/etc. The fact they are currently making less money isn't that relevant to the fact they are still a massive corporation and always have been.

Than Nvidia? they did have, about 15K to Nvidia's 10K, they have reduced that to about 10K now. 15K was really too big for what they are.

AMD certainly dont appear a bigger outfit than Nvidia, it's their lack of marketing/PR/ that makes them seem less motivated, less ambitious.. they have a dreadful online image, it's similar to British Leyland from back in the 1980s

New drivers are important in the sense that new games come out and need driver fixes, this was mentioned on another thread about new games coming out faulty.

Whilst it wouldn't be reasonable to expect full driver releases every week a monthly crossfire and game update would be something to fill the gaps between the big quarterly driver releases.

AMD have the Ed Milliband issue, no matter what they say or do they just appear like losers in the press. They need to totally refresh, name change maybe, merge in with a giant like Samsung and then take the battle to both Intel and Nvidia.

AMD were much bigger than NVidia historically but they've severely declined over recent years.

I still remember there was an ex-employee posting on the Apple forum a few years ago saying that Bulldozer would be a flop (this is when Bulldozer hype was still in full swing) and that AMD were more or less finished because of poor management and general brain drain. The AMD fanboys at the time just dismissed him as a disgruntled ex-employee but most of what he said appears to have transpired.

It seems to me AMD have spent the last year or two just trying to stop the bleeding so they can live to fight another day, hopefully 2016 is the start of their resurgence what with the new CPU architecture.

Bring back the ATI brand and start competing for the performance crown like ATI successfully did that would one way to improve their image. Associated a brand with best parts money can buy, I mean I never thought I would see the day when people would happily fork out £800 for a single GPU video card but Titan proved me wrong!

Anything that prevents a monopoly is a good thing. Think how much worse Apple would be without HTC and Samsung.

AMD do decent products at a decent price but they need to be better at selling them and supporting them.

I feel a bit like my mind is going in circles as to what AMD need to do to turn things around. Really their best chance now is a successful launch at Computex followed up with a strong showing at E3.

you can sense lack of focus, direction and enthusiasm, they let things drag on and drift by, but this is easy to turn around..........they need a boss whose worked in Supermarkets and has restructured whole organisations, they dont need somebody that has tech knowledge, that's for his managers to find.....yes it's that bad, because the boss whose there right now is still getting outsmarted by the competition

Does it really need explaining?

You're having a go at the people they hire, further pointing out a role which a member here has. If you have an issue with Matt being part of AMD maybe take it up with him instead of having a sly dig.
Agreed. As ive said before, at least they have someone on forums. We had an nvidia rep here for all of an hour or so. Posted a few times in the 970 ram fiasco thread. Only to dissapear after editing his posts. Heck even asus who are slated for very poor support/customer relations have appointed a rep on here and other forums.

Tbh Chop your hatred of all things AMD is a bit on the unhealthy borderline mental side hahah, dial it back a little so as to not appear a complete loon :)

ok :)

Why only focus on that part ? Don't cherry pick parts of my posts to find something to hit me with. Those are some of my thoughts for AMD to improve.

Where is the rule you have to reply to all of a post and can't select parts out that you disagree with?

You know fine well what you're doing, you're a self admitted troll.

Do one.

you cant complain about Matt anyway, he's pretty damned good and very helpful too, he's one of the best guys here

Which is why he got the Job. He was pro AMD but also helpful. Just what most companies would look for in a rep. I am sure they would look for other qualities but that's a good start.

For AMD to improve though they need to hire the AMDchop as i feel AMD are to nice when it comes to business.
