Do you switch your TV to "GAME MODE" ?

Ah 'panel' - says it all...

Arnold Messi talks a lot of crap, I recommend always ignoring his advice...

P.S. He has a GT50, hes just too gutless to back down from trying to big himself up

lol

I had a Panasonic Plasma back when 1080p full HD plasmas hit the market. TH 42PZ700BA - I use it in my spare bedroom after my ex missus ran off with it a few years ago and then gave it back to me. It got to be knocking on for 8 or 9 years old by now. Its a heavy, cabinet based plasma but it was very good in the day and still holds up well today. I had a Ps3 connected to it for years and used it with a xbox360 at one time. Don't remember if this set had a gamemode, but then I never noticed lag, I never noticed lag until I got a Samsung UE42 5500 but using gamemode soon reduced this - I used it with a Ps4 and a Wii u for a while until that ended up in the master bedroom for me to watch netflix and Plex whilst in bed. Problem with gamemode on the samsung it messed up RGB, so using PC mode fixed this but the image looked so washed out, and just not right at all.. Decided the samsung wasn't really a very good gaming set IMO and decided to change.

Got a Sony KDL 48W8 or something based on the over whelming feedback on how good a gaming set the Sony KDLs are, its a W8 series I think, I get confused with Sony and the KDL range, but its got a gamemode and I have the Wii u, Ps3 and Ps4 all set to use Gamemode and the Sky is set to cinema or something.. RGB is perfect with it, no crushed blacks and about as perfect an image I've ever seen for gaming, no lag. Top marks.

Thing is, I use Plex on the Sony via Ps4 and even with gamemode, the picture looks fine to me, but the input lag from the Sony is virtually nonexistent. So yes, gamemode goes make a difference. But sadly for some sets at a cost to picture quality.

Friend has an LG set, bloody awful when I tried it to play games, I tried to ask him if he'd calibrated it correctly or set up gamemode, the crushed blacks were horrendous - he shrugged it off and said its fine.. Everytime I go round, I see the crushed blacks when hes got his games console on. Each to their own, I noticed the lag, he didn't when playing zen pinball, on his LG the flippers lagged when you press the bumpers, he didn't notice it, but I did..

My dads bigger than yours - jesus christ, do you really want to keep embarrassing yourself? Im not the one that put you in your position, you did FFS

Just read your posts I'm on topic and was trying to get it back onto the topic of Tv's. All you have done is attack me.

I think you need to step back and take a look in the mirror

I treated myself to the ZT65B as my leaving the forces present but unfortunately it had a fault and Panasonic could not fix so ended up with a refund. I have yet to find anything that looked as good and tbh after spending hours previewing and playing with the LG OLED I would say as a complete package it's not as good as the ZT was...

Is that a 60" screen? I used to love Panasonic TV sets. I missed my Plasma when my ex ran off with it and I got a Samsung, I then got a Sony as I said above, then two or so weeks after I got the sony, ex decides that the Panasonic she ran off with is too big and heavy to mount on her wall and I helped her get a Sony and I got the Panasonic back lol

now I've got a spare TV in the spare bedroom.. Figures eh?

Oh I quite agree, but thats not just what he was trying to imply. At some point I should list how many merits I got at infant school to make my argument far more authoritative...

to be honest I'm not with you, he made a factual comment about a tv... I support what he has to say about that tv as i own 1.

If your adding a view point about what sonny posts in other threads/comments then to be honest im not being pulled into that, sonny may talk pap 99% of the time for all i care, but on this post in this thread he's 100% correct

My LG is horrid if game mode is not on. I'm no pro gamer but in anything but game mode it very noticeably lags.

I've got a friend with an LG and I've told him till I'm blue in the face, given up, its horrendous IMO. Lag, crushed blacks, not a good setup at all, he has an X1 connected to it, he just thinks I'm taking the **** but I'm not, it truly is horrendously painful to play games on it.

Its a lower end LG but even so, I'm sure if he applied game mode it'll go a long way to fix the image and lag.

the number is the size so 65 is the 65 inch, the letters are the range of tv i.e GT, VT & ZT the B means its uk

with LG the norm is to throw it into PC mode, normally gives the best input lag but will reduce the IQ a little

Ah right, makes sense, as the Panasonic I've got has a B in the number. So how old is a TH 42Pz700B and how much do you or anyone think its worth?

don't see much use for it myself...

no idea but that might be a Member Market question

I'm using a KDL55W829 and I DO use Game Mode most of the time. It feels more fluid and less laggy; I can instantly see its dealing with the picture differently to my usual cinema mode; the picture appears like more sharpness is being applied, and the colour/contrast/brightness are completely different, but at the same time, as I don't sit right in front of the TV, I think generally it doesnt make the picture intolerable, and it does just seem like the picture is more fluid/running at higher framerate for lack of a better word.

That said sometimes I forget and leave it on/off, but instantly notice if I leave GAME mode on and switch back to TV; like I say the setting is completely different to my usual cinema setting. The 'higher sharpness'/boosted contrast does suit a lot of games though, especially older ones, where you don't need it to look quite as cinema-esque.

Have to admit I've bit a bit on and off the fence since getting the TV about it, but have kind of got used to it!

It was 60" and it was far to big really but I thought after serving 16 years for Queen and Country a big TV as a laeving present was a must... :) I have not seen anything yet that looks as good the OLED LG comes close but I found it lost detail at the edges and the motion was not perfectly smooth like the ZT was.

Tbh I was gutted and relived when it was refunded.

I find on my 620 something is the model using game mode with custom settings works best. You can have a decent response and a nice pic.

You have one of the best gaming tv on the market when it comes to input lag, read this

Might give you some ideas, whats going on...

I disagree a calibrated VT50 might have been reference level 3 years ago, but for the fact that existed, an 'out of the box' GT50 was never that. Its a moot point considering they were both well surpassed by the VT65.

How that offers any insight to the question posed by the OP matters how expensive your mattress is I suppose

that might be the case, its just a starting point for most LG, defo the entry level stuff,

what everyone has to remember is the simple harsh truth about tv's, what we think looks correct is more than likely wrong by reference level design, but just do what you think is best, if you don't have the tools to setup a tv then don't copy someone else's settings as each set of the same model will be diffrent

Cool, no harm in treating oneself. Shame you couldn't keep it. I have a 48 " and wish I'd gone bigger lol
