Do you switch your TV to "GAME MODE" ?

The thread was originally posted in the Members Market so "wrong section" was the appropriate response.

We had no way of knowing that and surely, whatever the section it was in, an appropriate response would be something that helps with the question asked.

I'll check it tonight. Pretty sure when I used it (years ago mind you) it made everything seem artificially weird - like when some TV's can make bluray too fluent and it just looks wrong. Deffo not happy with the sharpness and brightness though. I'll have a play around tonight to see what it's actually adding/taking away.

Think you're talking about that feature that Samsung TVs used to have (may still have) where it inserts extra frames to make things look smoother. The only problem is it makes everything look like an episode of Days of Our Lives. :D

I used to use my PS4 connected to my 24" monitor, soon as I plugged it into our LG TV I noticed that online games like Battlefield felt almost twice as hard due to the extra lag with the post processing.

Set it to Game mode and it felt just like the monitor again.

If you've got used to playing with your TV without game mode, I'd suggest just trying it without, the difference in reaction times may surprise you.

It's interesting. I always assumed (possibly wrongly?!) that setting your TV to not use any of these modes would just give you a picture with no processing, i.e. simple straight through image or "vanilla" image?

As others have noted, I've always found setting Game Mode (or cinema/other modes) just generally makes the picture quality look horrible and artificial compared to a display that has had some basic calibrated done with regards to black leves etc? My view here is from a projector rather than a TV but I assume the same applies?

My tv is reference quality Panasonic plasma so I don't use any processing or effects because the picture quality is simply the best you can get without spending ridiculous amounts on a oled. All those processing effects are introducing or removing and manipulating the image. It's like turning up the bass on a song. Your not looking at it the way it was intended to be seen.

I switch game mode on and the picture quality isn't effected at all. If it's not on I can't play any game the lag is unbearable

if he has a VT or ZT then he is correct, its considered a reference level plasma tv if its been set-up by an engineer or he has the correct tools to do the job,

I have the VT50B and its amazing, game mode on and its the best console gaming i have ever had...

I have the same panel as you. Which is the same one used in the 60 range.

The only newer and better panel than the one we both have is that used in the 65 range

I have tweaked the settings a bit but nothing near a proper calibration. I don't think it's worth spending £400 to improve the picture slightly.

Even on stock settings it blows 99% of tvs out of the water

Ah 'panel' - says it all...

Arnold Messi talks a lot of crap, I recommend always ignoring his advice...

P.S. He has a GT50, hes just too gutless to back down from trying to big himself up

ps3ud0

yeah its a monster tv, shame plasma is out the door but panny went out with a bang when they made them & with a game mode that does not reduce the IQ of the picture it was a total win...that's what years of small tweaks gets you..gaming perfection

Oh I quite agree, but thats not just what he was trying to imply. At some point I should list how many merits I got at infant school to make my argument far more authoritative...

I think the only difference between the GT50 and VT50 is 500 more FFD and possibly a better filter iirc.

So yours probably performs better in direct sunlight. Which is why I have mine positioned where it's not an issue.

I treated myself to the ZT65B as my leaving the forces present but unfortunately it had a fault and Panasonic could not fix so ended up with a refund. I have yet to find anything that looked as good and tbh after spending hours previewing and playing with the LG OLED I would say as a complete package it's not as good as the ZT was...
