I'm not totally convinced there's not a knackered (faulty/rusted) bearing. The bike is only 4 months old (and done 400 miles) so will be annoyed if it is - especially as they've already looked at it! I'll admit it was sorted after they did, but a few days later the noise was back...

Bearing can last 4k miles or 400 miles , my DT swiss wheels needed new bearing after 650 miles.

Checked the bolts on your bottle cages?

Checked the little bolt that goes around the bottom of each valve and holds it against the wheel rim?

Bikes are weird - you can be absolutely convinced a noise is coming from one area when it's actually another.

The crank arm pulls out with the whole axle through the middle. You can give it a tap with a rubber mallet or similar on the bit sticking out where you removed the other arm if you need to.
The BB is a sealed bearing unit, you wont be able to get at the bearings.

Other common things which can cause creaks:
-pedal threads (as mentioned above) take pedals off, clean up threads and grease them.
-chainring bolts. clean, grease, tighten properly.
-seatpost. Take it out and clean it and the clamp. Lightly grease using the correct type of grease depending on seatpost material + frame material.
-headset. strip, clean, grease, make sure it's tight.
-derailleur hanger. take it off and make sure no dirt between it and frame. clean bolt threads.

Just oiled up my chain, I'd say I have another month or two in my rear pads! They look crazy worn, twice as worn as the front! Going to get that sorted soon I think, only done 500 miles on this bike and its my first road bike so that's made me realise I need to pay more attention! Also needs a really good clean!

I once faffed about tightening things then went out riding to find exactly the same noise bugging me. I eventually realised it was the Velcro on my overshoes creaking!!

Yeah seat post or saddle rail (I know) mine used to creak non stop until I put a very thin layer of grease on my saddle rails

Anyone ever bought a Topeak Joe Blow Max II Track Pump?

Just bought one, got it for £23.68 delivered which I find is a bargain!

It's £24.99 on Wiggle so I've saved again!

Needed this as I literally only have my portable bike pump which isn't good enough, I need to test my pressure more regularly so this has become a necessity I think.

Anyone tried the Wiggle Bibs? They're only £29.99 which looks good to me!

I have a Joe Blow Sport II. It looks pretty similar to the Max II but can manage a bit higher pressure (the Max II can do 120psi, which is more than enough for normal road bike tyres).
It's a great pump. Mine is getting old now (5 years) and doesnt lock onto valves as well as it used to. You just buy a new head for it, saves buying a whole new pump :)

Brilliant! Thank you for that!

I bought a rubbish one last year and split my thumb clean open on the cassette trying to get it off so I binned it! Hoping this ones better haha!

Thanks again!

I've got a specialized air tool mini, tiny and does the job! Was like £15!

Going to take the pompino to work tomorrow, let's see how it and I handle the daily commute :) I know it won't be as fast but meh.

Tour of Britain route has been announced. Much more up North this year, even a stage in Scotland.

I'll be hoping to get along to stage 2 in the Ribble Valley on the 7th of September.

That's a great route. Two or three stages i could potentially go along to. The Hartside summit is notoriously one of the tougher parts of the C2C so it'll be interesting to see how the pros find it.

Wiggle order arrived :D

Order last Thursday morning UK time, arrives Wednesday morning (Tuesday night UK time) to Australia on their free delivery! Faster than buying inside the country!

Also, 5 minute power above 400w now, 410w this morning, racing each other up hills... everyone is super quick at the minute as they are training for events. I make much better FTP and 5-10 minute power than short term power. Most of the guys I ride with can drop me on a short effort but then I can bring it back and keep the pace on for longer, diesel engined!

We had a group of 5 yesterday attacking each other on a CAT3 until a kangaroo interrupted things ahead of us, I started to get dropped after 7 minutes or so, still work to do! Gotta be doing 9-12 hrs a week just to keep up!

Sigh, forum eating my posts.

Anyhow. Another draftee this morning but this guy said hello and after half a mile took position ahead and offered to let me draft him for a bit. Much more reasonable :)

Very nice! Does it actually make a difference?

I tried to draft yesterday, did okay for around 300yards then he left me :( man I was slow! Haha!

My neighbour's left me a voicemail saying someone was parked up over the road in a van this morning and reckons they might have been casing my new asgard bike box. So now I get to worry about it getting broken into...

It makes a huge difference to be honest - especially at higher speeds. Generally people don't like it if you draft them randomly though :)

Ugh :/ Do you at least have a security light? That can be a bit of a deterrent for things like that.
