Nice bike, ok spec but mechanical discs mean it's not as good as you *could* get...

Revenio 4, Discs (HyRD - think they're better than mechanical), SRAM Rival 22 (SRAM equivilent to 105?), several sizes and £1149. alu frame, carbon fork, 700x25mm tyres.

Maverick Comp (same spec as above), various sizes and same price £1149. Steel frame, CrMO fork, 700x35mm tyres.

I was mostly looking for racey frames with disc's and good groupsets around the £1200 mark. If you're not set on discs then you can get a bit more for your money frame and groupset wise... I'm riding this currently and love it!

Does your insurance money have to all be spent on a bike or have they allowed some to replace your bag/wallet/GoPro etc too?

Thanks for this roady, I think I will get that defy 0, hard choice when it's no longer about the price! I bought my last one as it was the cheapest decent bike I could find.

The insurance for the bike, pump, lights, and saddle bag with tools is £1300

Go pro is being replaced for a new for old along with headphones and portable phone charger.

Think I'm gonna buy a Garmin 510.

£185 though.. Don't wana pay that.

Yup.. Very overpriced for the tech that's inside! But after digging for days for a way to not buy a Garmin I had to bend over and get 800for £189 I think it was.. With hr and cad/speed sensors which I sold so the total ended up at around 150. Its a good device but Garmin really need a good kick from the competition :)

Apparently there's some cloud of doom hanging about, yeah.

I'm full of cold, though, so couldn't really tell you where that begins and the pollution ends.

Unless you need touchscreen, Bluetooth and live tracking then go for the Garmin 500 for £125 - it's the same device :)

Bluetooth and live tracking stand out for me, might wait a month or two..

How does this grab you?

I've shown the route starting from the crossroads in Hindley, so we'd both have about 5 miles either side in getting there.

There's a couple of road closures that may be coming to an end about now, so that route may not be exactly what we do, but it'll be close. In any case, we'll definitely climb Rivington, go to Tockholes and then back via Anglezarke if we can face it, and we should have time for a coffee at Rivington Barn.

Absolutely fine. So, 8am at Hindley cross roads. Not sure how long it would take me to get there. Half an hour?

Are you dead?

Curiosity got the better of me so kept it on last night.

Just before nodding off:

What's your time?

Did an 18:44 clockwise at the beginning of March, apparently 8th out of c.2000 this year.

Nothing wrong with a bit of friendly competition!:D You should be able to compare times on Strava? I've yet to do a TT effort clockwise so it's a bit slow.:p

Varies a few seconds depending on the segment but my current PBs are:

17:52 for 1 ACW lap

54:47 for 3 x ACW laps starting at Roe gate

19:09 for 1 x CW lap

Thomas is going to crush me :(

Used my new shoes for the first time last night!

What a revelation! They are amazingly stiff and the twist closure means you can get them nice and tight on the foot! Surprisingly comfortable for a first ride, can't wait to wear them in a bit now! Although the white is a bit in your face, but love em!

This. Look out for deals on them as well, a few of us picked up the Garmin 500 for about £70 around New Year in the sales.

Without knowing precisely where you live, it's just under 5 miles from the crossroads with **** Lane in Lowton to Hindley, so probably a bit over 20 minutes.

EDIT: LOL I'm not allowed to type S l a g even though that's the road name :p

If you're coming up Liverpool Road from Platt Bridge, there's a letting agent in a big white fronted building on the opposite corner. I'll wait on the pavement there.

Following accusations that I'm slow and don't push myself (harsh but fair :p) I thought I'd go out and give it a bit of welly.

Good ride Von and there's nothing wrong with 'being slow' providing you're doing the riding you want to do! (and that's all that matters really!

I'm not slow (really) but it means I find it hard not to hammer every ride and even harder to ride further. I have no stamina once over 10/15 miles and none at all on hills!

Think I'm gonna buy a Garmin 510.

Agreed, they're pricey. I looked at the 510 but Wiggle had a deal on the 810 without sensors so I snapped one up for a little over £200 so could justify it slightly! ;)

That's a pretty good response then so far, any progress on catching the thieves? Evidence found etc etc?

You won't be disappointed in the Defy 0, I love my Defy 1. 105 is amazing and the frame so responsive compared to what I was using before (cheapy Carrera).

I think that's the thing, the S&C sensors you need to get regardless of what you're using so you can make a bit of saving by buying them separately (in advance like I did), buying older ones (GSC10) or by going non-garmin.

Justifying the price of a Garmin is hard... I couldn't before as the bike I was riding was worth less money than the unit! But once you're using a smartphone 'worth' ~£500 and looking at stem/bar mounts for it costing £80+, the cost of a £150-200 unit becomes the 'best' option.

Bluetooth and live tracking stand out for me, might wait a month or two..

I don't use the bluetooth (everything is ANT+!) and I've not used the live tracking yet... The auto-upload is brilliant, when it works... *touch wood* mines behaved the last 3 days and I only needed to plug it in + upload on Monday.

I'm not sure if I'm a bit ill, or just gunked up from this pollution!

Anyone else the same?

Lots of illness going around here and I've had a bit of each of them, thankfully not as bad as everyone else! Healthier lifestyle! ;)

Commute in this morning was ok, 5th day commuting and 6th day riding so my legs are a little tired... Unsure if I'm going on the group ride tomorrow as they've not released the route on the facebook group yet!

Chased and passed a guy I probably should have drafted but all the talk of drafting fairies meant I didn't want to be one of them! When I caught him and realised he was older and bigger than me, it had to be done! ;)

My managers away with his telescope and expensive equipment to see the eclipse, we're left here and seen it with the pinhole in paper trick while at our desks lol, ghetto stargazing ftw :D

I really need to work out my resting HR sometime. What app have you used to track it?

This is just my Garmin 500.

GPS and Auto Power Down turned off and just recorded as a normal session uploaded to Strava/Garmin Connect.

Wasn't sure if it would continue to read due to needing moisture for the strap to work but also moving during the night but it didn't do badly.
