Airbus A320 Crashes in Alps

So far it's either a suicide or a muslim terrorist, at least going by most of the replies. Have they named the pilots yet as that's usually a bit suss

RIP to those that died, those poor souls :(

There was some mention of the name "Ralph" or an R although that could just be a rumour, anyone know of that name?????

Well we are not 100% that the reports are accurate at the moment. If it is terrorists somebody usually pipes up and claims responsibility quite quickly.

Looking at the procedure it is hard to believe that illness, loss of autopilot and malfunction all coincided and caused this.

Not looking good at all. Those poor people must have been terrified.

Also the US ruled out a terrorist attack very early on, although the latest information with the flight recorder may supersede this.

Especially if you are near the front. I have heard alarms and noises from the cockpit before; obviouisly nothing too serious (well I hope not, but I am still here so it couldn't have been).

'Sink rate, pull up.'
'Terrain, pull up'

all of which could be taken advantage of by wannabe hijackers.

To be fair if a hijacker wanted to act, im pretty sure they would jump at the chance when the pilot was exiting the cockpit anyway.

If both pilots are in the cockpit, how are they going to gain that entry.

And also, wouldnt a first officers responsibility be not to give out codes, even if they are threatened.

Whats to stop a terrorist threatening them to give them to override code as it is?

All im saying is external to cockpit is not the only threat, as we have clearly seen.

So no one tried to call out? 8 minute decent and not one message saying i love you or anything being leaked?

Over the alps? Doubt much phone signal. Tbh I don't think your first thought is 'I am going to die' despite the irregularities of the flight.

Then again, I don't actually know what happened, but the pilot banging on the door shouting 'let me in' might start things off...

I think that combined with my ears popping with the plane rapidly descending and the alps coming ever closer would set some alarm bells ringing...

What I dont understand is the leaked report that is out saying that the other guy was banging on the door trying to gain entry... Now given that we all now know how the door entry systems work in the airbus planes, why would he be banging on the door when we know he would have had the code to get in? Surely the leaked report would have said, other pilot tried re-entry code, and was denied access?

I think it's a case of facts. On the voice recording you can hear the pilot banging on the door demanding to be let in.

I don't think they have analysed the actual data, only the voice recordings. So it still could be door malfunction or pilot denying access to cockpit.

Plus even if they do know it's pilot suicide, these things are dealt with quite strictly, and it will take time before they released something like this.

He would be banging on the door in sheer panic because access wasn't being granted whilst the plane was losing altitude.

Good thing they installed all those phone masts throughout the Alps. Do people not think before posting anymore?

I asked a genuine question. There's no need to be an arse answering? The phone was flying over Digne? There is phone signal in this town... Hence was the question, so yes i did think before posting. Albeit i agree the chance would have been slim of having signal i would have still thought there is chance..

The Internets exploded saying it's pilot suicide. If this is true then it will be interesting to see how bias our news media is.
Will the pilot be 'A Terrorist' pilot aka Muslim, or just a 'Suicidal' pilot aka non Muslim.
