Well, the phone isn't for me as my nexus 5 does everything I want and the size of the phone is spot on (not too big, not too small.)

But, my dad is itching for an upgrade, he's current phone is a S3 mini. I said to him get a Samsung S6, but he doesn't really care about having the latest model that's out there. So is the difference between S5 and S6 really worth the extra money?

The requirements;
- Screen size around 5inches or bigger*
- Good battery life
- Decent Camera
- Good Signal

Nexus 5 is the only newish device I know of with a 5 inch display; all the other flagships are bigger. I suppose you could call the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact a flagship too so that's another option.
Lol, how did I not see this post yesterday? The only problem with nexus is the signal and camera, those are the two weaknesses which exclude this phone. The screen size doesn't have to be exact 5inch, the z3c is also a good call as it seems to have a good camera (manual unlike s5 point and shoot out of the box.) And decent battery life due to the lower res, let's be honest why would you put a 4k screen in a phone?

Z3c is now 270 Inc at Sony online shop sim free if that helps :p
Thanks, I'm not sure if his contract has ended yet. I would have to double check that, but he's transferring to GiffGaff with the new phone.

The wife recently upgraded from an S3 to a Galaxy Alpha.
Very happy with it, battery is good as is the camera for normal useage.

Yeah I was about to say if it doesn't help you then it helps me, but sadly that's wrong. Wonder if somebody has got confused with the Z3 tablet which is that price.

Ah yeah woops my bad!

Been cheaper at 240 previously tho, just look at hotukdeals for the good offers.

Thanks for letting me know anyway, I told my dad about the Z3C, he said that's too small. So now its Z3 vs S5, I'm not sure what he'll pick as he's doing his own research on these two now. Unless there are any other phones worth looking at?

You know, if he rarely uses the phone you might be better off getting a lower tier phone. Something like the Moto G 2 (5inch version) which is only like £150 off contract.

It looks to me you're doing exactly what I did with my parents - projecting your needs onto theirs and thinking they need a £400 handset. It's probably nowhere near worth the money for what he's gonna use it for. And if you still want to get him a top spec phone you'll be better off getting something like the LG G3 for around £280 (slightly bigger screen but small bezel so not particularly noticeable)

He uses the phone more than I do, so I'm not really forcing anything on him. It was him who said S5 as the current S3 mini is a bit slow for his day to day tasks. I'm persuading him towards Z3, but he's probably going to pick S5. I personally hate the Samsung UI and sony UI seems easier/simpler to use compared to Samsung's UI.

He's main criteria was; Screen size around 5inches (5.5inch is just stupid), Good battery life, good signal an decent camera.

So that's pretty much Sony Z3; 3100mAh battery, a screen still below 5.5inch and the camera from the reviews seems to be the best out of the range.

That's too brief, you aren't backing it up with any facts...

Better build quality, design, camera, faster SoC (CPU, GPU and Memory), more memory, better display, increased storage options, much faster ufs flash memory, improved fingerprint scanner, refined Touchwiz with removable apps and theme engine, louder speaker, better audio with Wolfson DAC.

I'm sure I'm missing something out.
