Had a 100 mile ride planned for today. Forecast was 20mph headwinds for the first half. We were absolutely ruined when we got to Alston. Some pretty rapid sections on the way back though!

2,600m/8,500ft of climbing, ended up with an average of 15mph despite spending several hours chain ganging at 9mph on the way out to Haltwhistle. Absolutely ruined..........

edit: So, bike finally sorted (minus adjust saddle and levers) and I have a free day tomorrow. Obviously, the weather is now forecast to be utter guff. I might see if I can get out in the morning but I'm not holding my breath.

Shoulda got SRAM Red :p

I almost went Di2 as with hydraulics Di2 6800 isn't actually that much more money. Resisted though I am still not sure I'm glad I did.

I was also tempted by SRAM Force (possibly with Red levers) but that would've been even more than Di2

Looool double the value of the bike.

Do SRAM have hydraulic levers yet?

Yup, expensive stuff :)

Not sure what you mean by your question - the SRAM Rival and upwards (maybe more?) all have hydraulic brake options though not sure where the reservoir is. I assumed the levers but I guess it could be elsewhere?

Like that. What wheels are they? Do you have a link to them?

Many thanks

I can dig out the Aliexpress link if you like but to be honest despite me having had no problems so far I'd recommend you contact one of the more reputable Chinese sellers like Flyxii or the like. Mostly because their warranties are better/existent. My frame was from Flyxii.

Anyone know who stock Bont shoe spares?

Sigma show them but are on back order till July....

I need new heel rubbers to walk on.

Finally done (minus a mud guard bolt but I'm off to B&Q to fix that). Woot :)

Weight is 8.7kg, with another 100g to be lost once I get my new bling pedals. Spec is full Ultegra, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes and 50mm deep section rims.

You know i'm a fan of bright colours, white and loud detailing/decals... We'll i'd still ride that! ;)

Does look damn fast, these back matt frames really remind me of 'street sleepers' - fast bikes trying their hardest to look plain! Grudas' is the same!

Not sure I like deep sections, or more the look of them on a non TT/aero kinda frame. You're brave having them on your commuter that's for sure - the last thing i'd want to do was ride slower because it was windy and my wheel choice! ;)

Just make sure you do not start to slouch on the bike if you get tired, stop and have a 10 minute rest at the side of the road if you start to notice your self doing it.
<snip>
Clearly wasn't as that last Ride finished me off and I ended up with
http://chirocentre.co.uk/piriformis-syndrome-real-pain-bum/
Finished my riding for months :|

Probably would have been perfectly fine with a few more days rest between rides but it got addictive pushing my self

The slouch tip is a good one, when you're really 'leaning' on your hoods to get the last bit of push in each pedal stroke to 'just get home' you can really put strain on your body. I've done it a few times at the end of long & hard shop rides and ended up with sore back & shoulders. Having your upper body as relaxed as possible aids your recovery afterwards and you'll have less 'aches' to try and lose before the next ride.

Horrible to hear of things like that happening ark, hope your recovery has gone well and you're back out riding again?

It's good to push yourself but it can be hard to know how much is safe. Very fine lines sometimes!

That could end up being costly for me looking for a new bike!

Seeds have been planted! Only a matter of time now ;)

Do any of the electronic shifters just automatically change gear for you yet?

all the computer would really need to know is what cadence you ideally want to maintain?

Think (as mentioned) it'does have to be more than shifting, you'd need some kinda way to set the type of riding you want to do - no use trying to sprint finish and it's dropping gears! ;)

quick 'shop on the rear

?

Thought the same as grudas, plastidip them to see how you like them and then hammerite or something more long term.

I'd also find tyres without white on and black up the stem... Fully blacked up! ;)

Red seat clamp would work, shame the outers and calipers are not a closer red! But if you were going that route you'd go the whole hog and do seat and bar tape too...!

Damn Murf! Nice ride and crazy average considering the effort and conditions!

I did my first 'proper' ride after my year off today. That along with being on a very low carb diet since the back end of last week meant it was bloody painful. :(

Still, I suppose the hard part's over with. Now to just keep it going...

Painful to throw yourself back in with that distance too! The weight will come down just keep riding and don't worry about it! I'm nearly 3 stone lighter than a year ago, the first 2 stone I really noticed as it came with my fitness and really getting into cycling, the (almost) 3rd I really haven't as I've just been concentrating on my riding! Weight doesn't bother me too much providing i'm not as big as I was (15 stone) and enjoying myself! To be honest I want to ride better on hills so should lose more but I like my food too much! ;)

That's the excuse I'm using today. I had to sort the garden out yesterday though so that's my other excuse!

I had a busy day yesterday but when my girlfriend mentioned making some chocolate brownies I knew I had the best part of an hour to get a ride in (skipped the shop ride earlier). The winds were strong but the sun felt warm, I have a ride planned with some guys after work monday so didn't want to do anything too taxing so went for my favourite 'training' loop I hadn't done for a month or two:

With a headwind which felt like it was all the way around I kinda paced myself and kept slogging away, had a brief stop on the way out (a little before a sharp 18% brief climb) so I wasn't expecting too much - was just enjoying myself but aware I had to be home within the hour. My climbing is loads better than the last time I did the route and I'm really surprised by the average speed and PR's as it didn't feel fast due to the headwind! :)

Had planned gardening, washing the car and fitting the raceblades today but with the cold winds i'm going for a semi rest/lazy day. Weather forecast looking good for next week so thinking i'll skip the guards and just do my normal weekend bike clean! :)

Race was cancelled this morning due to a collapsed manhole, which was annoying seeing as I based my whole weekend around it.

Ended up riding out to box hill with the intention of doing some reps but just couldn't be bothered when I got there. Was so busy, and riding through Richmond Park was an absolute joke too, which didn't put me in the best mood.

Ho hum, at least I get to watch Paris Roubaix :o

Well I didn't collapse in a heap at the side of the road so I'm happy with that. Only took an 8 minute break before heading back home. Felt I probably could have stopped on the way back in but soldiered on. The main killer was the wind, head / cross wind on the way out which made it quite tough. Fun on the way back down though :D

Looks like you did a great job. Take confidence and do the 50 miler next time. Well done Derek.

Cheers, I was really struggling on the last 6 miles back from Edzell so just came back the way i went out rather than going up towards the Caterthun which would have bumped it up to the 50. I think those hills would have killed me :p

Amazing weather today and the first time I've taken the TT bike out for a short spin. Got blown all over the place. Might have to change the front to a low profile one to try to straighten up and not soil myself when the gusts come.
