Haha, I'm surprised they didn't at least give you something complimentary. Losing a jersey is pretty unnacceptable.

Especially considering what they have done for Rapha CC members this week; the text printed on their exclusive shorts is cracking so Rapha have emailed every member to tell them that they will get new shorts sent out in 12 weeks (once a new printing and QA method is in place) but in the mean time they get to choose a new pair of shorts or 3/4 for free AND keep the existing ones.

Three pairs of shorts.

Maybe do a very gentle few miles. Just something to wake your muscles up a bit. Resist the urge to go fast with all your might though.

I would definitely do this. If I can I aim to only have one rest day per usual week. Unless I am on a rest week in which case I'll have a couple. Only usually have one of them after a solid block of 4-5 weeks though.

Just an easy spin to loosen your muscles will help get the blood flowing but not do any damage. Otherwise when you do ride again, your legs will probably feel pretty dull and you'll likely lack any top end.

So no 'grudas mode' then? ;)

I've taken an extra rest day than normal to be as fresh as possible for this 40 mile 'mini sportive' on saturday. It'll be the furthest I've cycled but at a more leisurely pace than my normal 30 mile shop rides. There's a few climbs more than I'd generally do on a 30 mile run so that's what I'm resting for, not the distance or pace! ;)

I'm commuting tomorrow so would that suffice for the wakeup my legs need (as I'll ride it as a recovery) or should I do an easy spin later too?

GIEF! And to think I was looking at getting some of the £70 Sky replica shorts as a cheap way to try some Rapha ones out. Probably worth stalking ebay the next few weeks instead then...

Roady, personally I'd do a very easy spin today as there's usually not a need to rest completely for two days in a row. Whether or not you do anything today just make sure you don't go too crazy tomorrow on your commute.

What are good OS stems these days? Need to get a 80 or 90mm for my Ribble to match my fitting data. Want one that has as little branding and shiny logos as possible. Not fussed if it's carbon or not.

How do you prepare/warm up for your TT efforts like the crazy one last night?

When I go to RP I find 3 laps gives my body time to get into the groove but if I try for a high intensity single lap my quads explode and I feel like dying!

The 6mi ride from Clapham to RP doesn't seem to be enough of a warm-up to go straight in for an optimum power lap.

Last nights warm up was the 9 mile easy ride to Hillingdon, followed by standing around in the cold for 30mins waiting for the start.

Seriously not the way to go about it, ideally I'd do several laps with a couple of hard sprints to prime the legs but no such luck last night.

I know ideally I *should* be in reasonable nick given where my PMC chart is, but that can be pretty hit and miss

Weather looks perfect today and I'm not in work... must get a move on and get ready to go out!

DO IT! Might be the last nice/good day for a week or more! :(

Yeah I wasn't intending to, I guess I'm half intending on doing this 40 mile at an easy pace and then if my legs are ok I'll go out with the lads monday night for a fast 26/30 mile loop. Would defo put me over my '100 miles in a week' challenge! Although depends if the Weekend is the start or the end of the week?! ;)

If the weathers stinky for the 40 (looks like it) and is nice on monday (not checked yet) I'll defo do it :)

 ;)

I'm slightly surprised Wiggo isn't using one of the BC marginal-gains-specials for his hour effort

Elaborate please? (I'm after some lunchtime reading!) :D

Need to get out tonight for a few miles but also just started playing GTAV (which is hilarious online) with the GF. I need more hours in the day...

I've made such a complete noob blunder with my disc wheel. I assumed that a set of normal but high quality bearings from the likes of SKF would be sufficient. Wrong. It's lovely and smooth, spins for ages... but it's completely silent. I should have got some cheap Chinese ceramic bearings #wheresmyrumblegone etc :D

I managed to ram 170psi in the back tub, about 10 shy of the limit. WOW, if you think stones fire out from under your tyres at normal pressures you should see it at silly-psi. I thought one piece of gravel was going to go clean through the door skin of a car this morning. Sorry to whoever it was, you've probably got a stone chip AND a nasty little dent

I always assumed the rumble was the tyre noise resonating inside the cavity of the disc.

Interesting that it's the bearing.

Noise is wasted energy look at it that way, you'll be faster with a quiet wheel (maybe)... Marginal gains..

British cycling had their own track bikes developed internally. They're available to buy, in principle, but most of the details are pretty secret

My guess would be one of:

1- BC bikes are 3 years old now, that's a long time in bike development and things have moved on.

2- The BC frames were the same ones used in pursuit and sprint races. Maybe a specifically designed pursuit/tt bike performs better?

3- It's in his contract that he has to ride pinarello. Or they are paying him to do so.

800 miles sounds a bit low.. :o even I get around 2k-3k out of my tyres.. not on my single speed tho, rear is dead ish already after 300ish miles!! - not a fan of v-brakes for commuting.

Is that the P4E's?! :o

Trek Issues Massive Quick Release Skewer Recall

It reads like it's QR's on just disc equipped models but I guess with the QR at fault it could affect others - basically the QR lever will go back further than 180 degrees so it can jam in your discs and spokes. Certainly worth checking if you have a Trek, or just any bike with discs?!
