Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 29th April 2015]

Top three has gone today - even IF Arsenal lose today (which isn't a given by any means) they have a game in hand (vs Sunderland ?) anyway

After fellaini missed an open goal in the first ten minutes, I had a horrible feeling it would end like this

Utd have been a joke, when they get into Everton's half there is no direct football, no passes directly to the strikers, no one getting close enough to receive the ball quickly from deep midfield, someone standing 5-10 yards infront of the back four so that if the ball went to them they could turn and play a striker in behind the defence. No even attempt to play like that. Go wide, go slow, where probably 75% of players receiving the ball in the Everton half are passing it backwards or their first touch taking them away from goal.

If Barkley hadn't been so dire today, in which he's ruined a good half dozen counter attacks, Everton might very well be 5-0 up by now.

What I can't quite get is with the defence being caught over and over again and mostly only Everton stopping themselves getting more goals, Utd's defence hasn't adjusted in the slightest.

LvG said that the game vs Chelsea was the best we have played though which is quite mad. We were OK against Chelsea but again, without Carrick we are super one dimensional. Blind just doesn't do anything unexpected. He will play it out to the wings so early that its obvious exactly how we will attack.

We need a Carrick replacement, a RB, CB and probably a striker at the bare minimum in the summer.

Chelsea: Courtois, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c), Azpilicueta, Matic, Fabregas, Ramires, Oscar, Willian, Hazard

Subs: Cech, Filipe Luis, Zouma, Mikel, Loftus-Cheek, Cuadrado, Drogba

Arsenal: Ospina, Bellerin, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal, Coquelin, Ramsey, Ozil, Cazorla, Sanchez, Giroud

Subs: Szczesny, Debuchy, Gibbs, Flamini, Wilshere, Walcott, Welbeck.

A good right winger would also be helpful

With the system we are playing the RB should be overlapping and getting forwards a lot. Mata has been great in that area of the pitch but Valencia is just too crap to be effectual in that role.

sometimes we need a proper winger though - and times like today when mata is generally ****

Mata struggles when the rest of the team plays badly because he needs players around him and he needs options. Building up at snails pace via Valencia who then panics and offloads badly to another United player under pressure.

No we were good against Chelsea just didn't take our chances. Today on the other hand we have created nothing. But we definitely need to create more chances.

Apparently we're close to signing Gundogan who has good attributes but is more of a roaming midfielder rather than sitting.

Still need an out and out winger on that side

We played OK against Chelsea but it was clear from the first minute exactly what Chelseas tactics were and we didn't take our chances. We didn't play particularly well considering how little attacking intent Chelsea had and how much of the ball we were allowed.
