The labour Leader thread...

After watching question time last night I thought Tristram Hunt came over quite well. Admitted Labour had made mistakes but also backed up the financial issues they had with the banking crash. With a name like Tristram though not sure he'll appeal to the left.

I agree. Chuka is barely even British, given his father was a Nigerian. Which incidentally is much the same as Barack Obama.

I find the latter especially bizarre. Its almost like America said 'we can't find a legitimate Afro-American to be president, so we'll import one'.

Or you know, the Americans voted in the person they thought would be best at the job.

I don't have a preference, but I reckon Chukka Umuna is most likely to win it.

Sadly if he does that's more likely to benefit the Tories than Labour.

The are, regrettably, a lot of racists in the UK, and if he becomes leader you can bet that most of the racists that voted Labour in 2015 will not do so in 2020, also most of the former Labour voting racists that defected to UKIP in 2015 will not swing back.

To add insult to injury it is impossible for Farage (or whoever leads UKIP in 2020) to stand in a leaders debate with Chukka and go on an anti immigration rant without looking like a total fool or a racist, which means a lot of the former Tory voting non-racists that defected to UKIP in 2015 will swing back.

Whilst I agree with you that I don't believe that if elected leader most of middle England (whether they believe themselves to be non-racist or not) will vote Labour if Chuka is the leader, I disagree with your point about being able to debate immigration. Particularly with UKIP who are totally against free movement from the EU but pro controlled immigration from all parts of the world including Nigeria where Chuka's father is from.

I bet Chuka has experienced only a fraction of the pressure and press hassle that Nigel Farage has received as leader of UKIP. Sounds pretty weaksauce from Umunna, I wonder if he's really cut out for a career in politics...

What has that got to do with what I said? My point was not whether he is the best person for the job, but whether he is an authentic American. I also pointed out the irony of people holding him up as an Afro-American president, when he is nothing of the sort.

Sorry sir, your race card had been declined, seems like it's been maxed out, do you have another you can use?

Chuka Uma is a just another long line of career politicians. Labour cant even grasp why they lost.

I would sooner vote for my cat.

And this is precisely why I wouldn't vote for any of them in a general election - the problem with politics in this country, is that the people intent on "serving the people" seek to do so because of the power and privelege that comes with doing so.

Britain needs to become a republic. It's that simple.
