Could you try something with your 12gb TitanX and 2160p TV

Load up a copy of The Witcher 3

Max the settings out @2160p

See if you can get playable fps, extremely unlikely

Check the VRAM usage and you will find it is only using 3gb.

All cards/setups are a balance between memory and GPU grunt. There is no point having 12gb if you don't have the grunt to use it.

maybe when it's struggling at 4K, it's using far less RAM than at 1080p and 120 fps............ not sure

but to me it makes sense that it'll only use a massive amount of RAM if you unchain it and let it run free, which means the same Pedigree of card but in two years time............``Titan Terminator`` :D

finally, i dont have the tv yet, i need to see all the 2015 models before i can finally choose something

but i still wouldn't buy a 390X at 4gb..i wouldn't go near it, because it simply feels wrong

Mal X stop digging a huge hole for yourself.

The memory usage stays the same regardless of the fps, the card will use the same amount of memory if the fps is 10 or 210.

Memory usage is down to resolution and game settings,

Where did that image come from, to me it looks like a photoshop fake and not a very good one at that.

I don't know, I just saw it and quoted it saying it looks like a thermometer going into the red.

And the GFX forum loses their mind.

Maybe I touched a nerve:p

It does not bother me.:D

If people look closely it is a 295X2 with the thermal bar placed on top.

Nothing to get excited about at all.:D

Just because it resembles the 295 doesn't mean it is the 295. :)

Just read through the hbm presentation, been in the works 7 years apparently.

This 100x.

Plus, all 3 next generation APIs (Mantle / Vulkan / DX12) can unify GFX memory. Therefore if you're intending to run high res / multi-monitor you're likely to be going dual-gpu or CF / SLI anyway, and 4GB will no longer be 4+4=4, it'll be 4+4=8.

This said, I still expect the 'VR' halo product to be 8GB ... or maybe it doesn't exist and their 'VR' product is the 395X2 ... which ought to be awesome, as the PCB should be significantly smaller than a 290X and nowhere close to the 295X2.

They're claiming the PCB for 390X (we all know that's what they're talking about) is 50% the size of a 290X. I wasn't planning on upgrading until Arctic Islands (4xx), but if this is the case, running a Silverstone mATX case, I'll probably pick one up not long after launch.

4GB IS NOT CONFIRMED, HE SAID NO COMMENT BECAUSE IT'S STILL UNRELEASED, THAT IS ALL

EUROGAMER ARE JUST SPEWING.

This info comes from a conference call all the hacks were on, nobody has supar-sekrit info or an exclusive, all articles will be about the same call.

This is mentioned in the hardocp article:

Joe Macri did close our discussion mentioning that while what we see here with Gen I HBM is shown with four stacks of DRAM, it could possibly go higher as production methods of HBM became more precise, but they simply did not know yet. Gen II HBM is targeting eight physical stacks with possibilities as high as sixteen stacks.

Still a possibility of 4 gig i suppose, but as a new tech it has to start somewhere.

So they know as much as the rest of us, nothing.
