Got Caught Speeding Last Night

Live and learn mate, been lucky, three times pulled and walked off with a handshake and no points. Also, look at the end of the day you walked away and its going to go away eventually, you'll laugh at it one day, wound is fresh. Could have been worse in the big picture its a minor.

On a weekday in a 30 zone. This has got a ban written all over it.

Why are you so butt hurt about this?
I'm not butt hurt; you just take the context of posts completely the wrong way.

They mean the same thing - if you go to court and basically say you 'did not realize I was doing almost double the speed limit' they'll come down on you hard.

I won't go to court and say that; I'll most likely plead guilty by post and take whatever punishment I get. Was just asking as per my OP

"but am not sure if it's worth going to court to plead guilty or just pleading guilty via post?".

It's only 30 because of the building/roadworks around the bridge isn't it? Last time I went down there, which admittedly was a while back, I seem to remember the signage being pretty poor, normally it's 40 I think?

I'd go to court personally, I've always thought the postal system just makes you look like you don't care.

Attend with a prepared letter about regret, first offence etc. Don't mention the brakes, the temporary speed limit or how fast you didn't think you were going.

Well that's for them to decide isn't it?. They'll send you a letter which will either allow you to plead guilty by post or tell you to go to court on whatever day. If they want you in court then you can't plead guilty by post. Always thought that was how it worked, but then I've never been caught doing almost double the speed limit so I don't know exactly :)

Always figured its a 40 looking at the size of the road / people cant cross the road except at the lights

Isn't it a ban when it's 30mph over the limit?

I got caught at 99/100mph on the motorway (speedgun) back in the day. Got 6 points and a fine. No ban.

Mr Obvious: 'Speeding at 11pm is a bit silly, surely the chances of plod looking for drunks is much higher?'

There is no hard or fast ban or points rule, there is jsut 'guidelines' and its up to the magistrate at the time. You could be lucky and get points (assuming you are not a new driver and 6 points = retest time) or a ban, the fine is means tested.

eg i got banned for 93 in a 50, 42 days and £300 fine (i was on about £750 gross a week then).
It was an SP30 (like yours will be) so didnt actually make much difference to my insurance but i was in the my 30's.
I'd never had any points or convictions etc before (or since actually) and pleaded guilty, this didnt seem to make much difference. I'd read of people in similar circumstances getting 6 points for example.

You might be lucky and get away with 5/6 points - I've heard of a lot of people who've ended up with that result having been caught at a similar speed.

Thanks for the info guys. I've just bought myself a Halfords 200 piece professional socket set to both cheer myself up, and prepare to do a lot of work on the car if it turns out it's off the road for a while.
Will wait for the paperwork to come through in the post.

Wait for the paperwork, then go from there. For a first time offence, I would think you'll likely just get off with points and a fine. Unfortunately that's way above the limit for a simple speed awareness course.

Eligible for COFP instead? No: Magistrates' court only
Points: 6
Normal fine range: £750 - £750
Disqualification possible? Consider 7-56 days
Maximum fine: £1000
