Who is 4k ready?

I can't run 4K maxed out in games at 60 FPS.

I can. Main difference between our specs is I have Titan X SLI vs your 980 GTX SLI.

My definition of maxed is Ultra settings with low Anti-Aliasing though.

Some people consider 8x MSAA to be 'max'....semantics maybe.

I use 2x MSAA if it's not too much of a performance hit (works fine in Far Cry 4 for instance) but at 4k it's not really so important.

What's better?

Witcher 3 @ 2160p with 60fps on Ultra.

But that requires SLI'd Titans my friend. £2500 on freckin graphics cards which will not be capable of maxing the latest and greatest titles at such a resolution 18 months / 2 years down the line.

and then there are all the attendant headaches that go hand in hand with dual GPU setups.

Frankly, I would suggest that someone would need to suffer from some type of gaming orientated personality disorder to feel the need to be motivated to opt for 4K and the GPU horsepower required to run it at a level of quality and performance comparable with what can be easily reached at 1080p.

Well, seeing as a single Titan X is slowly becoming borderline to max not particularly good looking games at 1080p without any dips (Hi, Witcher 3), the whole 4k@60fps concept is a bit of a pipe dream for 99% of people. I know I'm exaggerating but it happens. I bet most of us can't get steady 60 fps at 1080p:rolleyes:

One single Titan maxes the Witcher 3 @ 1080p in 2015. (Witcher 3 is a stunningly good looking game in my opinion, 'downgrades' or not). In 2016/17, with either developer or modder released texture packs that greatly improve the visual appearance of the game, perhaps taking the game closer to the wildly over ambitious 2013 VGX trailer standards, then a single Titan X will no longer be capable of maxing such a game at even 1080p.

I have the money to go 4K if I really wanted to, but it just spells expensive dissatisfaction to me, the same way that buying a 1080p LCD monitor did back in the day.

£1680 on freckin graphics cards.

I bought a 4k TV in December (primarily for gaming) and was planning on using the 295x2 that I already had (TV has DP 1.2)

Unfortunately I was having a few issues, which were primarily driver/software related.

Realistically the only way to get decent 4k performance from there was Titan X and the associated extra costs that bought.

I don't think I have a disorder.

LOL.

Smells like expensive dissatisfaction to me, with plenty more to come your way in the following months.

In contrast, I intend to go for either the 980 ti or the R9 390X when they launch next month, and I have full confidence that I will be maxing games out at 1080p with 60fps, for the best part of the next 4 years. It is only recently that my desktop HD 7970 has started to show it's age.

Certainly have the horsepower even if it's lacking vram . Using DSR where I have spare oomph , prefer stupidly high framerates

I am quite happy on 1080p at the moment. Mainly because everything I play runs fine on ultra @ 60fps, and I have four 1080p screens I have no intention of replacing.

I am however doing an x99 build towards the end of this year with a big budget so will consider it then.

Sure if I get one for free, I consider medium-high ready for it. I don't want any of that horrid TN though as I'd rather have 1440p IPS.

It will be a good few years before am 4k ready.

1. The is not card out there that can run 4k at 30fps consistently never mind 60.
2. If Gta V anything to go by then 8GB is min for 4k.
3. No 4k IPS at a good price.
4. I am 42 and the last thing my eyes need is smaller fonts! :p

Sweet spot ATM is 2560x1440 and I think it will be that for a good few years to come.

4k in 3 years but deffo not now!
