Buy a 290x rog matrix or wait? Want to ditch xfire

Go for it! OCUK have a great deal on it right now and by the time its delivered, you'll know whether you were right to do so. If it turns out buying the 290x was a bad choice, you can just immediately return it to get a refund and then get the better card. But I doubt it, with the way these rebrands are looking. Ya got nothing to loose but time. And effort for sorting out a potential return if we're all wrong and they aren't filthy rebrands.

Here are 2 images of my 290 in gpu-z. The first one is stock(Tri-x so 1000mhz) the second is OC'd. Look at the bandwidth and compare it to the 390 image above. It doesn't seem right. What does everyone think? Does having 8GB automatically increase bandwidth?

USD prices are a lot less. EU prices seem to account for VAT. I bought my new phone for £500 from a UK retailer and the same phone was only ~£50 less on an EU retailer. 20% VAT on 450 would make it ~£540, but folks who purchased from the EU never had to pay that. Whereas if one orders from the US, customs requires you to pay the VAT on import. These 300 series prices are BS for simple rebrands. We're better off with our current cards. And here I was hoping for more competitive pricing or improved cards.

Amd really fumbled this one. Seriously although clearly the Fury is new it's like they have been sat back for 2 years with cards that are losing market share already over the last year and just re boxed them?

if they aren't dx 12.1 then i dunno

3.5gb 970 or a 8gb 390?
Hum what to buy?
the future from AMD telling it like it is with 4gb is 4gb or something from that seems like 4gb but really isnt?

The german site says it got the info from a forum post.

The cheapest 390X for €499 converts to £361. With vat thats £433. No one in their right mind will buy a rebrand 290X for that price when the 980 is about the same price. The 390X would have to be faster than the 980 for it to be viable and even then only if they price it at less than £400.

Either AMD will surprise us or they have gone mad.

Euro pricing often includes tax, as it is around %15-20 for most of europe, however what I have noticed is that cards that work out to say £560 in actual retailers are £599 here, so £399 is probably about where they will hit

That's what I'm thinking as well. I mean in Germany comparing the prices 1-1 a 980 Overclocked with Aftermarket cooler is the same price as the MSI Gaming 390X.

I seriously hope these prices aren't going to be there on launch with the extra bit of early adopter tax.

The cards just don't make sense at all then unless you really need the 8GB VRAM, but even then they don't compare to an overclocked 980.

Maybe AMD know they are better cards and believe the prices are valid. If the 390X 8GB etc. is approx price to a 980 and beats it at all resolutions, you can see the logic from AMD to put it in at that amount. The DX12 stuff missing does seem a worry though. They might think they can get away with at now as we are a few months away from windows 10.
