Jurassic World

Overall I simply didn't like it. It was somewhat "fun" I guess, but only in the way Guardians of the Galaxy with its wacky humour was fun. To me it had more in common with the latest Godzilla than the original Jurassic Park.

It was made for the mindless masses who lap up loud bangs and jump frights. I was hoping for some of those classic quiet contemplation moments from the original, moments that developed the characters and made them endearing. But all we got was a random horny teenager (whose constant leering at girls went absolutely nowhere, had no point) and a main character that had a complete 180 degree personality transplant half way through. Throw in one of the most cliché scripts in movie history and some of the most ridiculous story ideas, right up there with the worst kind of fanfiction, and you've got yourself Jurassic World.

I'm coming to the conclusion now that we've simply forgotten how to make those epic movies we saw in the 90's. The industry just doesn't have the people capable anymore.

When is failing technology, phones, walkie talkies etc going to stop being a scape goat for terrible writing and fake suspense.

One little thing I noticed was there is some brief talk in the movie about 'Pachys'; 'the Pachys are in their enclosure' or something. I smirked to myself.
I looked up what it was referring to, and it seems to be Pachycephalosaurus that they keep in the park. Then I discovered that the BBC, in Walking with Dinosaurs, had a similarly named creature nicknamed 'Patchy'. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the BBC redefined the pronunciation of its full name also. How *****rdly of them!

It reminded me of the animated Pacman TV series that aired (briefly) in the UK. The US makers had Ms Pacman calling Pacman 'Paccy' and as a youngster, I smirked also at hearing this come out of my TV repeatedly.

EDIT: I see the bad word filter has starred out a word! It just goes to show doesn't it!

I went to see it in Imax last night at Cineworld.

Have to say I was impressed!

Last time I went to see a film in Imax was Tron a few years back. Imax then was 16:9 which then opened up to 4:3 for the Imax scenes. This was just a big 16:9(or10?) screen in 3d.

For once I wasn't left feeling let down by the audio as I have been in many cinemas recently, really added to my enjoyment.

Overall I found the film pretty good too, bit comic, some intense action but not much suspense.

Would most definitely recommend it :)

Overall I enjoyed it, probably 7/10 for entertainment and not much else.

Not really sure how T-Rex was able to get up and fight on at the end when saved by the raptor. It was basically laying there dead after nearly having its head ripped off. Ah well.

I'd give it a 7/10

A fun adventure film for all the family, if you overlook all the little inconsistencies and film tropes it employs.
Great special effects, but no-where near as impressive as the original, although they have done as much as they can with the plot and setting to modernise it for the times.
Some nice references to the original and apart from a few slow or silly moments, is very enjoyable to watch.

Saw this last night and my thoughts are as follows -

Good - the visual quality of the CGI was very good.

[RAGE Mode On] Bad - Everything else.

The CGI was actual quite poor in conveying the heaviness of the dinosaurs. They had no "weight" to them, for example the 1st Gyropod scene with all the heavy dino's running around looked awful because heavy things don't move like that (see any footage of rhinos, hippos or elephants etc) and our brain instantly can sense somethings not right.

The story was awful, full of half finished ideas, people doing stupid stuff which no-one would ever do, just to advance the story to the next "set-piece". The script was lazy i.e. DBH out-running a T-Rex in heels (thats right, a 40mph+ T-Rex out-run by a woman in heels). The Fish-Dino ending was silly (how did it know???). DBH runs through a jungle but the only dirt on her is is 4-6 lines across her chest (how'd they get there???). The same jump scare 3-4 times (lets hide beside a car while the Dino's head is next to it, oh look it goes away.....AAARRGGHH ITS BACK). The bird-dinos who have escaped an aviary "all" decide to fly to attack the humans just to advance the story (and why did they All attack, even the tiny ones who should have been scared of bigger humans???). During the raptor attack when DBH was driving why were her camera shots steady yet the truck was bouncing around??? When a raptor is attacking a human why do you stand and watch and NOT shoot the bloody thing with the gun you've been doing sod all with the whole film (oh thats right, to advance the silly story because the raptor is a hero later). Why are the Gyropods steerable, meaning that anyone can start ramming dinos or wander off and get lost etc? I like little nod's to the original but why did the T-Rex need a red flare throwing during the Daytime goat-feeding? Is it the same T-Rex from the first and if so does that mean it has learnt to only eat something with a red flare attached??? You have massive meat eating dinos yet you have No heavy firepower to stop one if it rampages other than a single minigun, not even a filling the tracker full of HE and placing it near the spine so you can just, you know, stop it instantly (at least In-Gen had proper weapons). Why would you drive away from the new dinos enclosure leaving people inside THEN activate the tracker to see where it is???

I think that'll do :D [RAGE Mode Off]

All of this is true. And I say that as somebody who was a fan of the last Godzilla film.

Just got in from watching it, although not got the wow factor of the original (like that would ever be beat, like trying to remake Jaws now) it within it's own right is quite a good movie.

We went to watch it earlier at our local Imax screening and it was pretty awesome.

I jumped a few times (much to the amusement of the rest of the group), and it was very well done with some nice calls back to the original film.

I have this sudden almost overpowering urge to dig out my JP Blu-ray set and turn the speakers up high.
