Final Fantasy VII Remake

Did you not read the part that says:

"But we can't have these upgraded, beautiful 3D models of Cloud and Barrett, still lining up in a row, jumping forward to attack an enemy, then jumping back to wait for their next turn. That would be bizarre. Of course there will likely be changes there".

I guess that all but confirms it. They're making a new game in the spirit of FF7 and not just upgrading the visuals.

You know, I can completely understand the excitement for people seeing a remake of an all time classic like FF VII, believe me I have played it through countless times myself and for me one of the best RPG's ever.

However, I feel games like that should be left as the classics they are, they have a certain charm about them that modern remakes won't be able to reproduce, so in my opinion leave it in the past where it belongs :)

so they will change it into a hack and slash cookie cutter and destroy everything that was good about this game.................

I don't mind them updating pretty much anything, and a tweak of the combat is fine by me so long as it isn't unrecognisable. HOWEVER...

I'm sorry, but that is just a really stupid thing to say. I'm really surprised, and a little worried that the guy who said it will be designing the game:eek:

BTW, my PS vita currently has FF VI, VII, VIII, IX and X on it!

You do know you're talking about the original director of FF7 ;) they brought several people in that made FF7 - director; writers for the remake.....

i for one cant wait for this!

I dont think it will be just a graphics refresh like some have said or else they would just call it FF7 HD much like what they did with FF10 HD for the PS4. So i think its more than just a prahics update, thats what i think anyway

Actually I'm pretty down for having them change the mechanics of FF7 but keeping the world and story. Surely they are going to do similar combat to what they have been doing for FF15?

Hell I think it would be awesome to have the kind of fighting mechanics from Lightning Returns. However if it turns out they do keep with the old turn based system then I won't be gutted at all, it's tried and tested classic FF.

Because the combat was the defining thing about FFVII of course.

I'd say it absolutely is. Obviously games used it before but it was probably a lot of people's first experience with the system (it was mine and I doubt I'm the only one). In my mind a game your playing for 100's of hours needs to have good mechanics and a good story. Ff7 materia system and turn based gameplay are great and when I replayed it a couple years ago it was still just as fun and it saddens me there's practically nothing doing that anymore. This could have been a great way to being that system back...

I do know. It is the comment I find worrying. Seems like a very strange thing to say to me.

It sounds ridiculous, but a game I would look at for inspiration for updating the battle system would be South Park: The Stick of Truth!.... It has some really nice ideas in it.

And yet changing the combat means its no longer FFVII. You can't have a Dark Souls remake have turn based combat, you can remake Fallout 3 and give it No More Heroes combat, they would no longer be the games people love.
