Really upset an Irish man on Saturday...

I'm not surprised she sounds like an idiot. How does the benefits thing work then, I'd assume that as she's European there's some agreement of mutual benefit between member states? But beyond that why was she living in and in a relationship with a man from a country that she hates?

Yes, I don't understand that, she hates the English yet she used all the resources available to her.

I went out with an Irish girl and her whole family hated the British, you should hear them going on, however they loved the British (English) handouts. It made me sick.

England for 7 years I think or was it 8. put me off Irish women for life.

I've known a few English families living in Ireland who were anti-Irish and never worked a day in their life. It didn't put me off English people for life but then again i'm not an idiot.

Theres a lot of Irish Republicanism on the net every so often I bump into it on YouTube or following a link from some other site and I'm like "what the..." Seems like you bumped into some them face to face.

The BBC and mainstream media seem to have a blind spot to it, seems to be an unwritten rule to sweep it under the carpet. It doesn't get any mention except when theres another attempt at a shooting in Belfast or the like.

Jesus christ! just because a couple of Irish people don't want to be referred to as British it doesn't make them Republicans or terrorists!

I upset a Scotsman once, he stood up and shouted right in my face.. you ba^$%#ds raped our women !!!! We were just about to get into a proper fight, then our boss walked in the office and we both thought better of it to not lose our jobs.

Can't even remember what i said, but he clearly had an underlying HATE for the English.

Why are the Scots, Irish and Welsh so anti-british at times ? Any atrocities are from many many generations ago.... talk about hold a grudge.

But what i find comical is how offended people like JOSH86 got when someone mentioned warrenpoint but seemingly it's ok to make jokes about Bloody Sunday and a Famine that killed at least a million people

Please read what I posted afterwards, also I would like to know which exact piece of any of my posts "made jokes and bloody Sunday and the potato famine"

Crack on...

i never get how people get angry over that 3 men who were planning to blow u pa bunch of civilians were shot while being apprehended the fact that the giant bomb they had was in their other car doesn't really seem a strong basis for "but why were these poor lovely wanna be mass murdered shot?" argument.

i doubt if some ISIS nutters were killed while they were unarmed and their bombs discovered later people would be crying out "omg how wrong they where shot they dint have their bombs with them!"

One mans terrorist is another mans...

I generally find in these threads that the attitudes from English people is progressive and forward-looking, while the attitudes from the fringe provinces is very small minded and old fashioned. Still, never mind .

I was taken by suprise it has to be said, and I'm glad to see this wasn't the reaction I should have expected.

Zero-malice on my part, and plenty of apology afterwards. Irish or not...there was 8 of us and 1 of him so I had nothing to prove by letting it progress and tried to diffuse where I could.

I've met tonnes of Irish, and it's amazing how one can alter your perception/approach to them in a breath.

Gotta admit, worst racism I've ever been exposed to was from a load of Scots. Which was slightly ironic as my family are Scottish and Irish by decent and I'm only the second generation to be fully raised in England.
Was funny when I pointed out where my family were from and some of the streets that my relatives still live on in Edinburgh. Morons.

Does he need to explain why?

But really the fact is the vast majority of Irish people have no problem with the British, Most of my friends are English. This was just 2 drunk fools in a pub, no different then the English guy who told me to "**** home paddy" when i was over watching a Spurs game last season.

I strongly disagree. I lived in Ireland for about 15 years. I have lots of Irish family. (My Irish mother still lives in Dublin along with my two brothers)

The idea that the majority of Irish people have no problem with the British is something I really can't get my head around. I would say the vast majority of Irish people have an issue on some level with the British. When they say the British they really mean the English as they don't have any problems with the Scots.

While the majority can suppress any ill feeling on a day to day basis, it is amazing how much will come to the fore after a few drinks. Even among my Irish friends in Ireland, the addition of a few drinks and the right stimulus can cause all sort of resentment to bubble to the surface. It is amazing how many even tempered types will after a few beers join in happily singing "Ooh ah, up the 'Ra"

You're hanging out with the wrong crowd!
There is an inherent 'chipiness' in most Irish (celtic) people towards the English I suppose which for me only manifests itself in sport. We do love beating the English far more than the other way around. It's just ingrained.
Some morons let it out other ways, but they're no worse than English people thinking it's ok to call an Irishman they don't know paddy or making some stereotypical comment.
I've zero problem with the English or England on the whole though. Great place to live and work.

Like I said, the barstool republicans are one thing, but given the right environment, far too many Irish will join in for 'the craic'.
