What film did you watch last night?

Hmmm I think I could absolve every single one of those points with this.. :D

First of all let me preface this as a fun debate since so many seem to have lost the notion and get heated rather easily. I just think it's fun ponder on making science fiction plots holes a possibility in that world.

The Alpha harnesses the power to reset time and if I remember correctly the death of an Alpha triggers the roll back to a predefined point of time.

If the notion of a time reset upon the event of an Alpha's death is acceptable then it's also acceptable that the death of a human, who has harnessed the Alpha's ability to reset time, can also reset time upon his death.

The ability doesn't necessarily need to activate through a conscious decision. Take hunting deer as an example; if you miss your shot and injure the animal then the adrenaline levels released by the animal actually spoil the meat, so the same levels of adrenaline in a human body could be the catalyst to trigger the ability.

The problem is that when time is reset he (Tom Cruise) retains the power to reset time, despite not having the Alphas blood (since he went back in time!)

The premise that you can go back in time, thus not being injured (or dead!), but still retaining your memories, and indeed your blood (!) is crazy.

And when he replays the day without killing the Alpha and dies, logically that should be the end of him. But no, the day still resets.

There's a version of the prequels on Youtube that edits the first three films down to two hours of the pertinent story that concerns Anakin's rise to becoming Vader. From a quick glance, the first film is almost completely gone.

that would be interesting
I believe there is something similar done with aliens and Prometheus, in black and white.

Predestination

Really enjoyed this! Gf and I sat there trying to predict stuff, and were only right half of the time :D

7/10

Heh. Watched this the other week, enjoying it, thought I saw through everything, got to the end, wrong!

Admire the film for a few reasons, most of which the expressive nature of the lead character, hides a story, tells a story, probably why I missed the show and tell.

Uhh.. Watched dalek invasion earth 2150.

Over 30 years since I saw it in the cinema on a midweek for the kids matinee. Id like to say it holds up, but the kooky stuff with the robomen and Bernard Cribbins, makes it hard. All good with the rest of it though, you're a fan of Who... must watch:)

Very good point.

If he retains his memories then there's something more physical that's being transported back into his previous self. Maybe the time jump also replaces blood and specific brain cells... but now that's such a far stretch.

The purge.
Switched it off about half way through, due to it being so dumb....
Every few min's, something would happen that.... just wouldn't happen, and would annoy me.

I reached the bit where Ethan shot daughters boyfriend and killed him. And ran off to find daughter. While daughter found mother, told her that Ethan killed boyfriend, and then randomly runs off despite a strange man being locked inside the house, whilst it's currently legal to murder. Also, whil;e daughter and mother were talking, mother refuses to go inside the room with the son for some reason, and insists on chatting in the unsafe halway.

Thor, The Dark World - 7/10

You know what you're getting with these Marvel films :) So far, so good. And I'm not a comic book fan (never read any of em).

Just don't expect anything cerebral ;)

The Hobbit: BOT5A. 7/10. Decent conclusion to the series.

Best in the trio was desolation of smaug by quite a margin imo.

I saw The Hobbit 1 on TV, although I missed the first hour (during which evidently nothing happens, as they were still in the Shire).

To be brutal, it was utter cack.

Would you say the last two are significantly better?

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) - A thoroughly enjoyable sideways look at the spy thriller, when the genre was in it's peak during the cold war The Harry Palmer style of writing was drowned out by the shaken not stirred type, good to see it return to it's roots.
The scene where the abusive father figure is challenged in the flat had me in awe, I imagine that is what it sounds like to be a pyschic. :)

Pros: great action sequences, immaculately shot.
Cons: just a continuity error, that's all.

8.5/10

Currently going through the previous Terminator films in preparation for Genisys on Friday. Watched T3: Rise Of The Machines last night. My girlfriend promptly said "That was really rubbish" as the credits started rolling. She was not wrong. Yikes!

But T1 and T2, which we watched over the weekend, were just superb.

Hopefully watch Salvation tonight or tomorrow. I know 3 and 4 really do have no bearing on the franchise whatsoever, but it has been a while since I have seen them all.

The Purge: Anarchy is much better, it doesn't seem so dumb as it's just a slaughter !

good idea , think ill do that myself too :D

The Situation. Tense indie film about a bunch of people who find themselves in a situation. If you've ever been in a situation before, this is probably a good movie for you. Fluent speakers of Modern Standard Arabic will not need the subtitles. Having said that, anyone who's fluent in a language that sounds like a camel fellating a donkey has bigger problems than subtitles anyway. 7.5/10.

Evil Dead (2013). Boring, stupid, and not even vaguely scary; an insult to the brilliant original. 3/10.

Panic Button. Made on a budget of £300,000... and it shows. 2/10.

Gone. After 30 minutes, I wished it was. 2/10.

You got the right film? The only good kill I know is the one staring Ethan Hawke as drone pilot struggling to cope.

Yes, that's the one. Micklethwaite is credited as 'man at barbeque', but only in the blu ray release. Great movie, and Micklethwaite is very believable as a man at a barbeque.

After seeing the trailers for Genisys, it makes T3 look good. Granted you can't always gauge how good a film will be based on trailers, but seeing as reviews are really poor, suggests it's a stinker. If the poor review continue, it's going to end up with more negative reviews than Salvation, and that's no mean feat.

Still, if you go in with low expectations, it might not actually be that bad. :p

Critics have been wrong before. ;)
