I may be wrong, but they may have issued that command immediately on them establishing the 1-2 in the first few corners. Having said that, I didn't hear the Smedley interview, but if he outright denied that such a command was ever issued, then that is a bit shady.

Before I eff off I might point out that if no one moaned about something not being as good as it should things would never get better. Sadly, since it is a sport I have enjoyed for 30 years, F1 is in trouble too many races are dull I mean why would you bring yourself to watch Monaco for instance. Reliably interesting races like Canada and China haven't been their best this year and the administrators have locked in regulations that limit the ability of teams to catch up. I'm sure F1 fan boys will get enjoyment no matter what but for many of us when there is competition between many more equally accessible sports watching telly for 2-3 hours in the hopes of 10 -30 minutes of excitement doesn't work.
Now the British Grand Prix whilst a local highlight can be a bit hit and miss at the front but today I didn't see much coverage of tight battles for other places involving drivers I might support.
If too many more fans like myself do leave the sport because our moans are ignored there won't be the cash to make the technical pinnacle it is supposed to be.

Regardless if lap 1 or lap 10, the radio message still went out.
Williams told their drivers to not race, pitchforks or not.

I think they did, but it got delayed for broadcast a few laps due to the first lap shenanigans. Smedley appeared confused by the question that Ted was asking, before it dropped into place with him that the radio feed to the media is delayed and edited, then he contested the premise of the question from Ted.
Nah, obviously would have made no difference, because as drunkenmaster says, they would have lost regardless.
Then make suggestions rather than moans then?
The FIA can hardly write a rule book that says "races must not be crap", can they? Perhaps if all the people putting so much effort into finding every fault they can in F1 focused a part of their energy in finding what's good and pushing suggestions we might get somewhere. The attitude of a lot of people is complete and utter negativity at all costs, and quite frankly F1 would be better off if you did leave.
Start by looking at what made those 10 minutes good for you?
Not the interview I saw (could have been either sky or BBC as I have both streams running
)The way I heard it was that Bottas said he had a good opportunity to overtake but at the time was being told that he WASN'T racing Masa! Then when he was later told he could race and overtake he wasn't presented with another good opportunity like he had when told to effectivily hold position!!

You can't match strategy, the guy behind has the choice. Hamilton cuts into the pit lane at the last second Massa and Bottas are already past the pit entrance, they can't cover it. If they pitted first Hamilton stays out and does a blistering lap with one less car in front of him.
Merc have way less tire deg than Williams so can simply afford to choose to pit earlier than them as well.
Williams had no chance, they've lost out pitting first, and when pitting after I think every time since start of 2014. They don't have the pace, Merc were way faster, pit stops will cause clear air for the faster car be it staying out or pitting first. You can't change that simple fact. Either car pitting creates clear air for the faster car who will then make the times required.
Can't say I'm surprised by it.

No, you're forgetting that Bottas was going well. If he'd gotten past Massa, and if Massa had held up the Mercs allowing Bottas to pull out a lead, then sure they had a chance. Same clear air argument.
Edit: Precisely what Ted just suggested.
I'm not convinced that if the Williams swapped that Massa would have held the Mercs off. I think Williams should just be a bit annoyed they didn't get 3/4th today - Vettel did well to sneak in there.

They wouldn't have held them off, and no Doohickey I didn't forget Bottas was 'going well', you're forgetting that Bottas had DRS and Massa didn't. Without DRS he wouldn't have been as fast but he'd likely have pulled ahead of Massa, more importantly a Williams without DRS as Massa would have been would have been very vulnerable to Hamilton. I think Hamilton would have passed Massa within 2 laps and was probably a second a lap faster than the williams, that gap would be gone in 2 laps. Had they let him pass early in the race he'd have had plenty of time to close before the pits and may have passed Bottas because of DRS advantage.
Fact is regardless of where they were, had bottas magically made a 20 second gap they'd still have ended up behind both Mercs because that car is rubbish in the wet.
I don't think anything can change my mind that Williams messed up in the first part of the race.

Williams will never win with that waste of space Clare Williams in charge of things. Miss Conservative is not what F1 needs right now.
Boring race overall, McClaren again proving to be the biggest disappointment to the sport.
Highlights is how F1 should be viewed, so you:
- Don't listen to ramblings about someone's mental state
- Commentary that circle jerks over the same issues every race
- Save time by what will be an inevitable Mercedes domination

Maldonado destroyed by Grosjean, Grosjean had a good start in as much as off the grid. He tapped a Sauber out of turn 1, then Ricciardo diving up the inside into a tiny space Grosjean moved over a little tapped the same Sauber again, turned and hit Ricciardo, turned and shot off taking out Maldonado and that crash caused Alonso into a bit of a rookie panic losing the back end and taking out Button. Though a tap on the rear wheel with the front wing shouldn't "turn off the engine" quite that easily. Maldonado flipping the **** out of Guti last year didn't randomly turn off his engine.
I think a lot of the blame goes to Ricciardo, it was a very ill advised move, diving up the inside with almost no space in a pretty tight corner(when you come in to the apex literally at a right angle) was asking for contact.
Maldonado loses very likely decent points again through no fault of his own.
