The Fury(X) Fiji Owners Thread

They abandoned decent DX11 drivers as well, their high CPU overhead is **** compared to Nvidia.

You be completely wrong! Sorry to say but you might want to follow whats happening over at Guru3D and Windows 10 drivers.. They are so much better Draw calls on DX11 games with some games showing quite decent improvements.

Well I would rather they concentrate their efforts on DX12 and Windows 10. I was looking forward to giving Mantle a good go but oh well, always forward I say :D

Yeah I do agree... No point looking backwards. But it does seem that what ever AMD is doing on Windows 10 there driver set is shaping up to improve DX11 games also.

Shankly, mantle did absolutely nothing for 80% of gamers, and tbh it only really made amd cards a bit better than nvidia equivalent cards did in dx11.

For the people who 'benefitted' from mantle then it's great for them, but it certainly wasn't the game changer it was hyped up to be.

Maybe it helped amd catch nvidia in performance but even then Not as many people bought the cards that amd would have hoped for.

You see here where I understand that you never even got a change to try Mantle.. It wasn't just about Performance!

Mantle helped give better frame latency, making games feel much smoother! Forget about but Nvidia Dx11 had 60fps vs Mantle 50fps Ignore all that..

The main benefit from Mantle was just how good games felt.. The proof is all out there! I not alone when I say this.

And I do agree not everyone got to try it out, but these things happen.. Not all gamers get to use other Technology but that doesn't stop them from existing.

Either way I think Mantle will help AMD more from learning working with an API so close to DX12 than if they didn't have Mantle at all.

Yep played bf4 on it twice using a 290x. On a single card it was no different to dx11 on nvidia to me.

I cannot comment on xfire and sli though.

We all hope for that, will it help the fury x at lower resolutions vs a 980ti making the fury x a lot more appealing to the masses?

You see I going to disagree here with you again.. For anyone buying a FuryX and still running 1080p you doing it completely wrong! They is other GPUs out there from Both Nvidia and AMD much cheaper that will do 1080p gaming just has fine...

The FuryX and even 980ti shouldn't be recommend as 1080p GPUs and more for 1440p+ They are way over priced for 1080p gaming.

twice in being couple rounds and that was it?? Not really giving it a proper test here...

I could say I used TitanX twice yesterday and it crashed, poor GPU! but that is far from the truth.

Why not? Have you played crysis 3 or gta v on 1080p maxed out on a single card?

About 15 rounds over 2 days = twice. Looked and felt and performed no better than dx11 on nvidia 'to me'

AMD set out to make an API that would move PC gaming forward - They did that, Lets not forget this wasn't just AMD's doing and it was Devs at Dice that made the API come to life.

AMD set out to make an Open API they did that - Vulkan is now running Mantle, Mantle will continue to work under this new API..

AMD will have also learned a lot from working with low level API and I would expect this work will help build better DirectX 11/12 Drivers

I feel all the work with Mantle has been a success if am being perfectly honest. AMD will continue to work with DX12 and Mantle will continue to work under Vulkan.
Mantle for me give me an idea what us PC gamers can expect for future API..

But I guess you will always hate anything AMD try to do for the PC gaming.

industry.

Mantle hasn't moved gaming forwards, it died the same way other hardware specific GFX APIs have died like GLIDE.

Volksn is not mantle, however much you want to believe AMD's marketing. Volkan is GLnext that has had contributions and development from numerous parties, including nvidia and AMD. AMD shared mantle code to allow some concepts to be incorporated, and nvidia has also provided code although possibly to a lesser extent. Remember, Nvidia have been a far bigger supporter of OpenGL in the past than AMD/ATI.

Of course I support what AMD does for the PC gaming industry.
But you will never acknowledge what Nvidia does. Your whole post is just full. Of AMD PR material.

Ultimately mantle was a complete waste of resources for AMD, something which was highly predictable from the start. They should have concentrated on DX drivers.

The legacy issues of DX11 and OGL have been known for a decades. Mantle was never going to be a solution, a proprietary solution mad quavering as opens source that only works on a Single architecture was never going to succeed in replacing hardware agnostic solutions.

Mantle was usable on even less than 20% of gamers. A vast majority of gamers use Intel IGPUs, Nvidia have 76% of the discrete market! and mantle only worked on GCN 1.1, not older card or newer cards like Tonga. Then it was only available in a few games, people who played different games even with a GCN game had not benefit, so we are really talking like a couple of percent at the most.
