Windows 10

Downloaded and installed 10166 in 30 mins via Windows update. So far everything is running great.

Updated over the top of 10162.

My speakers are finally working in 5.1, which is bloody brilliant.

HOWEVER.

If anyone's figured out how to delete playlists in groove, do let me know. lol

Stupid question.. :(

After the free install of Win 10 over my Win 7 prof, would I need to reinstall all my programs (games, etc) or should almost everything be fine?

I just did an upgrade over my 8.1 and it's working perfect. All programs intact and all drivers working.

I'm quiet impressed tbh and see no reason to do a fresh install this time around unlike upgrading to Win 8.

should be fine doing a upgrade as should keep everything there but as always do a backup of important data to be on the safe side as you never know if any issues are going to happen

I was thinking of running an upgrade over my Win 8.1 install using the insider preview.

I had a few questions :

1 - Will this automatically update to the RC when it is released or will I need to reinstall?
2 - I have the Pro version of Windows 8.1. How do I get the Pro version of 10 now and when the full OS is launched?
3 - Anyone running this on Bootcamp on a Mac?

Well I have bit the bullet and installed Win10 on my main PC :)

I have one pretty major issue.

MY HP Server is not showing on my Windows 10 'Network' but i can access it via web browser using IP address.

Strangely my own PC is not being shown on the network either. (see my wifes PC only - MANDY)

As you can see on my other PC. Its showing the HP machines, and my machine and itself.

How do I fix this? I want to map shared folders on my HP (running synology software) as drive letters on my Windows 10.

P.S. File sharing and network discovery is enabled

Same here... I've mapped using IP address rather than name resolution as a temporary measure. Your setup looks much the same as mine, judging by what your server's being discovered as in the screen grabs.

Think this crept in with either 10159 or 10162, although I can't be sure.

Mapping via IP is working fine for now and it hasn't given much of a hiccup, but is something that needs sorting and which I've not had real time to look at yet.

Guys, check the type of network connection you have and allow network browsing in control panel. Network type should be private I think rather than public.

Andi.

The plot thickens....

I just created a local account and all computers were found, but wiht my microsoft account its not there.....

So must be to do with that for some reason.

When you sign in to your Microsoft Account are you signing in using a PIN?

If so, the Synology will not show up, you must sign in with your MS account password.

Do not upgrade to free windows 10 because of Microsoft crafty:

1) You must use Microsoft account to get full features (I don't like this!)
2) Microsoft free upgrade because it put hidden spyware malware adverts on Windows to paying Microsoft of collect all your adverts to companies to adverts you. (get lost! I won't having this!)
3) after 12 months (bang - start to pay subscription via microsoft account) - they won't tell u because it will trigger peoples to cancel upgrade!
4) Security is weakness in Windows Home and Pro. The Enterprise is stronger security but it only for Business with much more features (not sold to home users)

Hey Ace, sometimes you have to use slightly different credentials to access your network storage.

So my "NAS" is called home-server-0, so my login credentials have had to be \\home-server-0\username and then of course the password.

Yeah, no. I wish people wouldn't just readily talk out of their arse like this.

Windows 8/8.1 is the same.

2) Microsoft free upgrade because it put hidden spyware malware adverts on Windows to paying Microsoft of collect all your adverts to companies to adverts you. (get lost! I won't having this!)

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to say in its entirety here, but yeah, no. They aren't putting malware on to people's computers.

3) after 12 months (bang - start to pay subscription via microsoft account) - they won't tell u because it will trigger peoples to cancel upgrade!

No they won't. Not because they're kind, because they're not completely and utterly stupid. The implications of doing this would be utterly ridiculous and cause significantly more problems than the extra revenue would be worth, so no they just aren't. I have no idea why so many people blindly and stupidly follow that this is what's going to happen.

Security being more of a concern in enterprise environments shocker! I'm not getting what the actual issue here is.

Thank you very much, this worked 100% for me. What a joke!
