Radeon FURY thread

Yeah nvidia marketshare must have gone through the roof this quarter.

I will say the furyx does really well at 4k.

Indeed. I was holding out for these, but I'll likely go with an NVidia card after seeing the AMD offerings.

They're good cards, but AMD just haven't given us (well me, at least) a reason to buy them.

The thing for me though is which card will be better in VR, Fury X or 980 Ti, theres really no way of knowing exactly because while DX11 non stereo performance does help, theres a performance penalty when you try to render stereo which will vary depending on the pipeline so it seems possible that LiquidVR can make better usage of the cards power than nvidias equivalent

It's alright guys, once the prices come down these will be sought after, it happened with the 4850, it happened with the 5850, it happened with the 290. It will happen with the Fury to, at some point they will be the card to get when prices are lower. Prices are high at launch but they will come down.

These cards from AMD are great imho Fury and Fury X (Pump noise aside). The problem is Nvidia's are better, this doesn't mean AMD made bad cards they just weren't quite good enough to justify this price range, but still good. Pricing can change everything. Give it some time, the next cards with a die shrink are a longs way off. Plenty of time for AMD to adjust pricing etc.

Do you not know your history?

The 4850 was like 150.
The 5850 was 200.
The 290 was ~350.

They were sought at launch, AMD just completely messed up this time.

Here we go lol, thanks for the patronising comment.

Yes I've been around a while, perhaps even longer than you. Pricing across the board has gone up since those days Martini.

Those cards did not set the GPU world alight at launch, but over time with cuts became really popular. The same will happen with the Fury's. Patience grasshopper :D

Nothing like seeing fps in action. From this I reckon an 390x with an extra 100mhz on the core should be on par or even slightly faster than the fury.

really interesting seeing the frame counter/averages side by side there. Quite interesting also seeing the 390x keeping within 10fps of the FuryX on average as well. Is the FuryX really worth 200 pound more than the 390X for just 10 more fps on average??

The 5850 absolutely did set the world alight when it launched? It was the second fastest GPU at the time at a tiny price relative. Nvidia had only the 280/285's at the time, and they were vastly inferior.
Hell, the 4850 was ridiculously sought after too, the price/performance it offered was unmatched!

Like I said earlier, with an average around 10fps difference on all the games there, is the FuryX really worth £200 more than the 390X??? I'd rather put the £200 saving towards buying a 2nd 390X to crossfire with the 8GB VRAM, and then wait a year for the proper cards to come along. That might be where I stick my money, crossfire 390x looking quite attractive.

I refer everyone to my post about pricing on page 13 of this thread, its a good read :). Wish AMD would go back to its small die strategy... At least they should have for this generation. I am disappointed. The Fury X needs to be faster and the Fury needs to be cheaper for me to consider them... this is the first time I am genuinely disappointed in a high end AMD product launch since the 3xxx series.

At the same time I am incredibly pleased with the performance of my cards and the state of drivers recently, while there was quite a while for 15.6, I haven't had a single driver problem since omega and performance increases have just been coming and coming

So the 390X is just as good. May as well overclock my 290X and beat the Fury.

Where did you draw the conclusion that its just as good from that review? What about all the other reviews showing it mopping the floor with a 980gtx, which the 390x is 5% slower than. The specs are inferior to fury in every way except for a 70mhz increase in clock.
Anyway il see for myself when my card comes I have a friend who owns a 290x for comparison.

Aargh Amd what are you doing, the pricing is all wrong! and the 4GB. Wrong, wrong, wrong FFS. With the 980Ti now hitting £490 price mark I'm afraid the Fury is £100 overpriced in my view. Doomed ah tell ye, doomed. :(
