Radeon FURY thread

Like I said earlier, with an average around 10fps difference on all the games there, is the FuryX really worth £200 more than the 390X??? I'd rather put the £200 saving towards buying a 2nd 390X to crossfire with the 8GB VRAM, and then wait a year for the proper cards to come along. That might be where I stick my money, crossfire 390x looking quite attractive.

The thing is you are much better off looking for a pair of 290X's second hand.

My advise right now is either 2 290's, get em used if you can, some nice savings, if not, 2 390's. Other than that its 980Ti all the way in my eyes...
I wanted the fury to be better, to replace my 290's. But for the price its just stupid right now.
Some guy on ebay right now selling 2 MSI 290X's £200 each... bargain

Yeah I guess, I won't be water Cooling though, 290x crossfire gets a bit toasty for me. I've heard the 390x at least has better cooling than the 290x and I like the idea of 8gb vram in crossfire compared to the 4gb vram on the 290x. I'm going to wait for 390x prices to drop to 300, then snap a couple up, use them for a year and get a proper new card next year I think.

I would be lying if I said my 2 290's aren't toasty, and thats with the Tri-X cooler, but they aren't fermi/hawaii reference levels. I get 83c on my top card max with 77 on my bottom card, I use a custom fan curve but the fans never go above 50%, not too bad if you ask me.

I agree with your point about the 4GB, although I haven't found any problems so far at all, at least while gaming, 8xMSAA on valley wrecks my cards, but I can't see any difference between that and 4x even if I have my face 1cm from the monitor anyway so its pointless using it hahaha. I play at 4K too, quite a bit more VRAM intensive than 1440p.

I would recommend the 390 over the 390X, even at 4K where the extra shaders make the biggest difference, the difference is very small, not worth an extra £80, or 33% of the cost of a 390 again imo, an overclock is pretty much all the difference.

Note the miniscule difference between the top 2 cards, this is only a single review, but the majority of the information on the internet is similar to this.

I love those DF vids, helps make a decision so much easier

(helped me decide to plump for the Ti)

Funny that they didn't include the ti in that video. Maybe the 390X would have been close behind the ti too?
Thinking about it, 2 x 390 would be the best bang for buck from all the cards. They would be faster than a TitanX OC but cost around the same as a cheap 980 ti.

I have corsair air 240 , I cannot fit 2 cards, so unfortunately I need one powerfull monster. cannot do xfire or sli.

your right defo not worth £200 extra for 10fps.

My brand new vapour x 290x is coming today, £227 delivered for 1080p I couldn't justify anything else, of course I wanted a fury and then custom loop it, but we would be talking double the price.

Hi there

Even to my surprise over half the stock has already sold, it is clear AMD have a card which people do want and I suppose whilst production is so limited if they can sell them for $50-$100 more than what most are willing to pay it at least helps AMD improve profits.

I am sure when production of Figi parts improve then AMD might and I repeat MIGHT move the price, but right now both Fury and Fury X are actually selling and reasonably well. :)

It's no surprise when the Fury is just a few fps behind the FuryX/980TI. :)

That's good news then I suppose. It didn't fit the bill for me but hopefully amd get the customers that they need and can move forward.

Disappointing release imo, decent cards but they need to be cheaper or AMD need to bring back the games package.

Tony, if you your 7950's are still having no problems with running the current lot of demanding games well, I would just stick with them but if you really want something new then I would just get cheap second hand 290's/290x's, preferably the sapphire tri-x or MSI gaming edition ones, they might still dump loads of heat into the case but the GPU's themselves actually run pretty quite and cool, more so the sapphire tri-x.

I have my MSI 290 core voltage set to -37 now and it mostly hovers around 65-70 (max temp goes no higher than 85) with a max fan speed of 56% (average is about 50%) and that is with this rather hot weather currently and.... this is with my antec P100 case with crap fans :p So it would run even quieter and cooler in your case.

Fiji mate. Hate to be pedantic but if you are selling these things you may want to get the nomenclature correct. Just sayin'
