BBC licence fee could be means tested everyone pays regardless of whether or not they own a telev

Oh look more utter cluelessness.

Definition of act under uk law,

So you think terrorism isn't against the law unless you sign something. Rofl. I think your brain fell out.

Depends on where you read, but an act has to be agreed too and a law doesn't (lots of controversy and misinformation about it though)

Seems you forget Acts have to be agreed to by the person you are imposing them on. A Law doesn't.
That's the difference between them.

No, you are utterly wrong.
Go commit a terrorism offence, drink driving offence or pretty much anything else and try using that excuse.

Why does anyone need a live TV in this day and age of streaming media from Netflix and others? More and more people are swapping to streaming media services which don’t need a TV license. Netflix like services are far superior to Live TV so what is so odd about millions of people giving up live TV?

Everyone doesn't have 8Mb + connections. People still complain about buffering.

What about all the people that watched Wimbledon? F1, Cricket? NFL on every year through the night?

I also think there would be big trouble for the BBC if you could opt out of JUST the bbc

In other words you get all the channels

The option is currently. Pay 140 pounds a year for TV.. Or save 140 a year with no TV
Move this to pay 140 pounds a year for the BBC.. Or save 140 but keep every other channel..

Then you'd get trouble. I would sure as anything not pay

Of course subscribe to what you use is also Unfeasible

If I let them in my house to check and see my nowtv ps4 hooked up to my TV how can they possibly know I watch live TV?

They need a license but that's only a small subset of the population. Virgin are the biggest broadband provider in the UK and the minimum speed is 50mb. Netflix works on as a little at 0.5 to 1.5Mb. Even lots of mobile phones networks these days have enough bandwidth to download Netflix without buffering and can stream that to a TV screen. My point is a large part of the population no longer need a TV license. That group that no longer need a license is getting bigger each year.

As for Wimbledon you could watch it live in person, web cam perhaps? or buy the DVD. Is it on Iplayer to stream after its live?

not relative to the OP
but to all you that do not have a TV licence, i am not asking for you to incriminate yourselves but why what do you do TV wise then?
do you only use streaming services etc
The money I would have spent on a TV license I use to buy DVD/Blueray box sets. At £10 a season that’s up to 14 seasons a year. The rest I watch on Netflix.

Lenny Henry comes out in favour of abolishing the BBC.

What I find amusing are all the celebrities coming out in support of the BBC. They all either get paid by the BBC or have a financial benefit from the BBC existing. Jamie Oliver for example gets paid by Channel 4, but his contract is much higher because of the BBC pushing up rates for "talent". If the BBC disappeared tomorrow, Channel4 wouldn't need to pay him as much.

they started using cgi and scenes from zoos/captivity in the proper ones but after they were called out said they would put up a warning in future docs

All you lot talking about Netflix...it's good but not that good...a lot of the stuff is naff...

We need the BBC ...it's part of our culture...we need public service broadcasting....we need cutting edge documentaries...or we can watch worlds worst weather on channel 5

As for garbage like the voice ..it has to compete with Itv....that's it...strictly may not be your cup of tea but it's massive...

I would rather have a few shows I hate on the BBC that I don't have to watch than an itv model using adverts ...were content is predominately made for profit.

Sky is ******* ***** and yet people are willing to pay 50 quid plus per month.....I ditched sky and will never go back....sky users are chumps paying for TV twice !!!!!

Freesat is where it's at...

The cost of the BBC and it's model is outdated of course due to the Internet...and fragmented consumption leading to personal narrowcasting....I predicted this in a university essay a decade ago and got a 1st so I know what I'm talking about.:p

I'll still keep subbed to this thread....as the chumps are coming out of the woodwork with daft commends and it's entertaining me on my day off having morning coffee.
