1 £3,000 door

When I build my last house and went door shopping I was shocked at just how much it was possible to spend on doors, I saw doors for £10k+ in some of the london show rooms.

I imported some really nice doors from Spain at around £1k each for a full door set and I am very very pleased with the quality.

It was an external door so it got painted unfortunately :(. That's why it isn't fully prepped here as it needed a prime coat first.

I can kick out about 2 in three days if I'm doing more than one door, it would be even quicker if I had a proper table saw/jig set-up for cutting the tenons.

More photos from the house that I made these doors for:

You are a gifted guy and produce quality work!

The crux of it is that it would make me sick to spend £3k on Vaneer on MDF. The technique will be streamline and that will drive the price down so all you end up in value of the material which is Vaneer on MDF.

This door has solid rails, styles & mullions, the only veneered parts are the ply quartered infill panels. They take me about two days to fully assemble & prepare, total cost is about £600-£700 per door in Sapele which is a close match to mahogany.

This one is 82 x 43 inch :D

But that's a panel door and totally different design to the one in the OP, nicely made as it is.

Well yeah, £3k for a door is just ridiculous whatever way you spin it!

It's more labour intensive for me to make a panelled door. I reckon I could pop ones out like in the OP in about a day if I could get hold of the timber in a big enough size. They would still cost less than 1/2 of the cost at the very worst, even due to needing more material.

If I said £2k, that's a huge saving for a totally solid door of superior construction.

If you can do for half the cost I've got 400 I need in batches of 10 weekly starting October. I assume you can provide the veneered frame, stop and architrave for that plus the hinges ironmongery and fire certificate. Can you pallet and protect and deliver them to London for that price as well. Don't forget to pay the congestion charge and have a low emission lorry.

A man hardly touches these. A cnc machine pretty much does the lot with a bit if labour to load into the machine and fix the hinges.

I'll have to remember when they are installed to take some pictures.

400 x £3,000 = £1.2 million on doors.

Don't forget about the "French polisher" ;).

I'd have thought a good quality plywood would have been a better substrate than mdf. I can't see these holding up too well in a humid environment like a bathroom.

Seems massively over priced for what it is to me if that's the price for a standard sized door? I'm guessing the £3k figure is for a big sliding door or something.

3k was the cheapest.

Total carpentry package £2.5m Inc timber floors for 50 apartments. Not including kitchens.

£2.5mil for carpentry inc timber floors and half the budget is getting spent on doors?

Is it me or does that seem grossly disproportionate ?

I would've thought you want to spend more money on the floor, seeing if anything, it's one thing that you make contact with the most, and wear off first.

Timber flooring is only halls and living rooms. The rest is stone and carpet I won't post the carpet cost because some people may faint.
