Another Job Centre Plus, sanctioning rant!

God this forum has a lot of anti-welfare members.

I'm not anti-welfare. I am anti-coming onto a internet forum to rage about it, then making a habit of it.

I offered to help him with his CV, which I am more than happy to do.

His position is pretty dire. But it does seem like a lot of bad decisions on his part has put him there. Now is the time more than ever for him to help himself.

Damn people finding excuses not to work by being ill.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pol...come-off-sickness-benefit-ahead-of-tests.html

The 878,300 who decided not to have an official assessment of whether they were fit for work was more than a third of the total number of people claiming sickness-related benefits.
The statistics also revealed that some claimants cited conditions such as “blisters”, “sprains and strains” and “acne” as preventing them from having a job

So at what point did the OP say they they were trying to live off benefits and can't be bothered to get a job? I assume you're just trolling.

This wasn't in response to the OP, it was just a general point that many people seemed to have used "illness" as a justification to claim benefits. When the state "called their bluff" many people stopped.

In a perfect world these "tests" wouldn't have been needed but their were too many people abusing the system. I feel sorry for those who were genuinely ill who might have been caught up in these "tests" not for those who were claiming what they weren't entitled to.

I'm not aiming that at anyone in particular, sorry if you thought i singled you out.

I've been on jobseekers myself and I have been sanctioned myself so I know what it feels like struggling for money. I'm a bit skint myself at the moment but send me your paypal and I can shoot you a few bob that will at least let you feed yourself for a few days.

Oh no I weren't saying you were. I'm just aware that my strong views could easily be construed in such way. I was just clarifying my stand point.

Ok so you cant rely on family helping out with food/financials forever. Surely though between family and friends they could do the odd school run for you, the difference in having a full time job should afford you to be able to pay for occasional minding etc too. Its a hard job I know (3 girls myself) and a wife with health problems. You need to grab everything by the scruff though, the moment you let chances slide, the even keel starts getting awfully vertical awfully quickly. Get your face in somewhere, even if it means working initially for a week or three FOC so they can see you are worth it.
Your children come first, how they view you may be tainted as they grow up only seeing you on your uppers, leave your pride on your welcome mat and get out there and find work.

God this forum has a lot of anti-welfare members. So if you lost your job, who would help you out financially? Mother nature?

Some people need to get a grip. Unless you've ever been on the dole you honestly have NO IDEA how bad it is.

That said, it is nice to see so many people offering financial help and job searching advice. Best just to ignore the naysayers.

It's not anti welfare, the welfare system is great, when people are long term unemployed and can't arrange themselves to attend one 10 minute appointment every two weeks, how can they possibly think they have anything to offer a prospective employer.

Not entirely the OP's fault though is it. Did you read the whole post? Doesn't look like you did.

^^^ I agree wholeheartedly with all of the above.

I don't want to come across callous or harsh (I've said I will help out if needs be) but without something like the above Vidar is pretty much unemployable. The logical progression to not being able to get a job is that he will be on benefits for some time to come.

Did you not read the OP?

"See now I've officially had it with Job Centre plus, it seems sanctioning me for 3 weeks for not turning up to an appointment I didn't know about and having to live off the generosity of friends, family and the local food bank wasn't quite enough for them."

The key here is "not turning up to an appointment I didn't know about".

If it makes you feel any better a friend of mine had to go for over 500 applications and hundreds of meetings etc.

He got penalised for missing out on a Job Center meeting on a Saturday morning (even though he told them he couldn't make it). It was his daughters wedding!

They need to prove to you that they informed you. Sadly the ball is always in their court it seems :/

Good luck

The argument back to that is they are every two weeks more or less like clockwork. You would know the week you had the meeting. Ringing up and finding out/ confirming isn't unreasonable IMO. Be a bit pro-active. Especially if you are relying on these funds.

Seems like it's for serial missing of appointments in his case. One small phone call to check the time/date of the meeting isn't much effort, especially when the meeting you are attending is funding you entire existence.

Good starting steps for the OP would be to go speak to Citizens Advice and contact his local MP. He should also lodge an appeal, which you do have the right to do.
