is it worth complaining to royal mail about this?

It's mainly that i really wanted the item this weekend and utter ineptitude on the part of the delivery person has meant i won't be able to have it until tuesday.

I'm sorry, but i have a right to be annoyed about that don't I? Surely they're being paid (by us esentially) to provide a certain level of service and when that service is pants then surely we have a right to complain, if it's genuinely affected us. As i said, i almost NEVER ever complain / cause a fuss but...

I don't care about the 3 quid i spent on transport or whatever, but i'd planned to use the item (an 85mm nikon lens) over the weekend and yes i can easily 'get over it'...it's not the end of the world, but actually, i will fill in the complaints form. After which i almost certainly won't give it another thought :)

Write/complain on RM facebook page?

It is hardly ineptitude. We all make mistakes at work. The person delivering may cover a large area which takes in both post code areas and he has mistakenly used the wrong card. Yes, it isn't great that you could have collected the item had you been given the correct card, but you won't be compensated. Delivery was attempted as per the specification of the service paid for - you weren't in to take delivery. That is where it ends.

omg op you should demand a £1000 pound vacation for the inconvenience caused!!

where there's blame there's a claim init! how dare they attempt to deliver at a time when you are not inside your home!!!! disgraceful ! sue the ******* for tresspass

also as you used public transport and was forced to spend time with he unwaged and the unwashed you should seek further compensation for emotional damage caused and the cost of bleach for your shower

common sense would have been to phone your local office first to see if the item was there.

I would like to think that it's common sense not to use the word "of" in place of have, since they mean completely different things...

OP, special delivery is supposed to be guaranteed. They gave you the wrong card which means their actions resulted in you not being able to collect it. I would think they're supposed to do something in response to this situation, as normally their guarantee would end at you not being available, but giving the wrong card changes this.

A contrasting experience today. My local closes just after one, but it's part of a shop. I got there today at 3:30 because the website was confusing and made it unclear that it closed at one . They saw it was a big parcel so they opened up the PO at the back, took the parcel in and I was on my way. Sure I'd missed last post but she said, 'I didn't want you to walk all the way back home with such a parcel'

Not only that, if they hadn't, I wouldn't have been able to post until next Saturday and I've taken too long as it is to post this parcel due to circumstances beyond my control. So top class service.

Got a card through the door yesterday for a missed special delivery. For some reason the card told me to go to the depot a couple of miles down the road to collect, rather than the usual one a few mins walk away. I didn't think too much of it, as i haven't lived here for too long and figured maybe as it was special delivery/a large package etc they might take it elsewhere.

Got a bus and a 15 min walk to the other depot where they had a quick look before noticing my post code and telling me it was the wrong card and that it must be at my local one. I dashed back as quick as i could (got a bit sweaty) but was refused entry at my local office where there was a large queue. I was literally 30 seconds late and they weren't interested at all when i tried to plead my case.

So i've ended up taking at least an hour out of my day, paid money for public transport and not managed to pick up an item that i really could have done with this weekend. I'm pretty miffed about it and despite not being someone who complains, often if ever, i really feel like doing so on this occasion.

Anywhere in particular i should vent?

Always complain, these large companies need to know don't let them get away with it.

I sent a return back to a company via 2nd class recorded and it showed on their system as never being delivered and I didn't get my refund. Once I complained the package appeared and I got my refund. I also got 6 stamps as compensation.

So basically, if you need stars complain otherwise don't bother because that will probably be the compensation.. :p

I'm sorry but would hardly call it 'utter ineptitude' - bit harsh maybe? the guy probably made a little mistake and used the wrong card. Personally if I had been in your situation and really needed the item I would have contacted my local delivery depot before heading off to the other one, but maybe that's just me.

There is a good chance the guy has his own delivery in another town and the bit he was delivering to your area uses different missed delivery cards and he forgot to change them, i've done it before.
