First seriously hilly ride in ages. 49 miles with 3600 feet of climbing - two cat 4s, then a cat 3, then three more cat 4s to finish. Fairly poor average speed - only 14.3mph - but there you go. I caught up with a guy on the second cat 4 and chatted to him for a few moments - he said he was a southerner so was struggling with the hills :p He told me not to wait for him, so I pressed on. By the time the cat 3 and third cat 4 were done I was mullered, so the remaining 20odd miles were heavy going.

That is not on track! :p

I went for a ride today. Got a KOM, lost it about 30 mins later when xdcx uploaded his ride.

It is what you get for attacking me at the bottom :p
I've went months without getting a KOM and today I got 3.

p.s. poor Kenny, down south racing today after spending a week gluing my wheels being a legend. Comes home to an email saying we munched his KOM's :D:D

Gave my hybrid a quick hose down and my road bike a more thorough cleaning today. No matter how many times I do it I think I'm getting it wrong :o I mean... is it possible to wipe off too much chain lube after you've applied it?

Anyway, went out a couple of hours later on the road bike. Probably shouldn't as my thighs are in a bad way from a combination of crouching down working on my car and over stretching trying to do something at work. I literally can't crouch down without whimpering! That said, achy legs can be fast legs as I set a load of PRs and would have had more but got stopped at a level crossing!

Speaking of being on track...

Myself, ThomPlease and Shoosh had a practice session at Herne Hill last night for the team pursuit competition next weekend.

We narrowly beat a team of serious/pro 14 year olds in a 6 lap team pursuit.

Just a short 10 mile ride this morning but it was bloody steep! upto 17% incline for about a mile! I burned out and was too tired to go any further by the time i got back. Hills do not agree with me haha. Still, 10 miles is 10 miles and better than nothing.

That may only be 10 miles but it is still more elevation than I ride in a week #NormalForNorfolk

That's more elevation per mile than my 50 mile yesterday, so I'm sure it must have been tough!

Anyone in here got a pair of Bonts? What are your experiences? Thinking of getting the vaypor s wide fit as I suffer pretty bad hot foot with my current shimanos

What a rubbish week that last one was, had booked it off, as needed to use up some holiday, was planning to go away for a few days with some mates, but they flaked out due to work and gf's :(, weather was rubbish for most of it, was ill for 3 days, and back to work tomorrow :(

Hopefully picking up a 2015 Giant Defy Advanced 1 tomorrow, going to get them to swap the standard 25mm tyres for some 28mm ones, anyone recommend something fast rolling, good in most conditions and relatively puncture resistant without being stupidly heavy?

Also looking for SPD or SPD-SL shoes and pedals, used MTB shoes and pedals before but the shoes were too flexible so I ended up with pins and needles after 20 or so miles, any reasonably priced recommendation please? Cheers.

Again, keep recommending the North Wave Scorpius shoes that Evans have on offer, they are firm on the bottom, look smart and nearly half price atm.

GP4000S and Shimano 105 SP-SL will do you just fine. Shoes are very specific, go try some on, but if you want stiff, you want to get some specialized s works ones! (also if you have deep pockets)

Thanks

I wish i had a flat area around me for a ride, no matter which direction i go i've got steep hills within a mile or 2 lol. The climbs are killing my average speed (obviously).

Who cares, elevation gives you bigger bragging rights than average speed anyway :p

I know a guy who has started riding in the last year. He's quick, and he TTs fanatically, but his strava feed is so boring because he just does the same 20 mile loop with about 600ft of climbing and then gets bombarded with comments telling him to climb some hills!

Fun afternoon/early-evening ride with my friend and his mrs. Utterly grim weather for the last half though...and I got a puncture in Tatton Park whilst it was not far from closing. Being the paranoid person I am I elected to run to the exit with my punctured bike in tow rather than risk changing my inner tube and getting locked in. Running with cleats = teh lose.

Sonic or Scorpius? Still not sure if I want SPD or SPD-SL this time around, I'll have a crack with the lads in the bike shop tomorrow.
