*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

Wednesday and Thursday off for me.

With no cap on marks any more people are just going to have to grind the hell out of whatever is dropping them (strikes/crucible I guess) to get geared up from vendors.

Yeah but that is how it has always been; get lucky with a drop or buy armour from the vendors to then raid to get the best stuff.

It just occured to me - how are crucible marks and vanguard marks being turned in to legendary marks? Are they adding vanguard and crucible together or averaging them? Either way we are loosing so many marks :(

You have to go to a vendor and convert them. But as the cap is 200 legendary marks, I'm not sure what happens if you have 200 vanguard and 200 crucible. Maybe you convert one lot, spend them and then go back for the second lot?

Ah I see, serves me right for not looking in to TTK stuff. I am almost at the max on all characters so hopefully we exchange on then the other.

Or I might be totally wrong. My head is in a spin at the mo. I might be getting confused with the armour stuff like hadronic essence and plasteel plating. I know you go and convert them at a vendor to the new universal material thing (whatever that is called).

From what I've heard your marks will be converted into commendations to burn for rep rather than turned into LMs. Pretty sure we'll all be starting from 0. Also your marks are now shared between characters, like with glimmer.

I am wrong - people on Reddit are saying this -

"Your current marks aren't converted into legendary marks, they're converted into commendations (which give you vanguard/crucible/vanguard rep). You'll start with 0 legendary marks."

"Based on what I've heard, Vanguard and Crucible marks will turn into Packages (one for every 50 marks) once TTK drops. Unclear if we will be receiving and Legendary Marks to compensate."

and

"Our current vanguard/crucible marks will not convert to Legendary Marks when The Taken King drops. They will be converted into commendations by blocks of 50 (i.e. 50 marks = 1 commendation) which can be burned for reputation. I'm assuming we'll all start at 0 Legendary Marks and will have to grind them up to the 200 cap."

This is what I've heard as well. I could quite easily have 400 marks on each character by next Tuesday, but I might actually spend 200 each on planetary materials instead. That's about 1200 materials in total, which should mean I'd never have to worry about them again. Commendations aren't worth much as they were only 250 rep each last time, which was about the same as a couple of bounties.

Also i am sure that when you dismantle a year 1 legendary weapon you get legendary marks. So all those useless legendary weapons (multiple Ill Will) you can dismantle for marks (unsure how many though).

I highly highly doubt that. I'm pretty sure I've seen that only Year 2 legendaries will give legendary marks, not Year 1.

I would do this (mark cap on all three characters) but I have so much planetary material already I have no room for any more. My vault is full (with no materials at all) and my characters are all max slots - 2 for inventory.

I used to have loads of planetary materials but I've actually been upgrading a lot of stuff lately. I'm only missing 4 exotic weapons (Necrochasm and the 3 Elder Cypher weapons, though I'll get one on Tuesday) and out of the ones I've got, only 4 are not maxed out at 365 (even rubbish ones I don't use). It might have been a waste of time depending on whether they start with perks unlocked or not if I can upgrade them to Year 2 versions, but I didn't have anything better to do!

Well I think that's pretty straightforward then... Complete missions. Play raid. Get fun new super toys.

I wasted mine on even stupider things, like I got a Mask of the Third man with 125 Int instead of 117 Int so I maxed the 2nd one out and deleted my old one.

I've totally jumped on board the hype train now as well. I've glad I've got MGS5 coming today to keep me occupied until next week, I'm really looking forward to going though it all.

I don't know how many people go on Reddit and saw this, but one of the guys from GameInformer did a big AMA (Ask Me Anything) the other day, and one of his best answers was this...

I did not get to 40, (though at one point Bungie boosted me up to that level so I could check out some of the content that opens at 40), but I want to point out that I didn't play all the story missions. I played all the story missions in the initial story arc.

As I spoke about in my story, that initial arc of eight story missions tells a story about your confrontation against Oryx and his Dreadnaught, but a bunch of story missions open up afterward, and I only had time to play a couple of them, including the one that took me back to the Vault of Glass to learn more about Praedyth. I also got the beginnings of a couple of different exotic weapon questlines, which look like they are going to be much more story-focused than they were before.

It seems like there are going to be a fair bit more than the initial 8 story missions I thought we were getting, and I love the idea of going back to the Vault to find out about Praedyth. Sounds awesome :D

Hahah, I'm guilty of that as well, I think with about 3 different helmets now.

I'm proud of my Titan exotic helmet collection though. I believe the highest helmet roll is 136 for any stat. These are the rolls I have...

Helm of Saint 14 - 136 Intellect
Glasshouse - 135 Intellect
Insurmountable Skullfort - 135 Discipline
Helm of Inmost Light - 133 Strength
Eternal Warrior - 75 Intellect and 63 Discipline

Now sure how I lucked out into getting nearly max rolls for all of them, but I'm not complaining :D

My best is Achlyophage Symbiote with 135 Dis, it seems the cap is 137 on helms. The Mask was my 3rd, first was 105. I've wasted a lot on my titan too and I don't even play it much, but I stopped this weekend since its just not worth it with 2.0 around the corner.

Once we get TTK I think I'm going to try spam Crucible to get a tonne of marks. I should be able to get 60-100 a day so should take me a week to get too a decent place armour wise.

Looking forward too the story, the current story in the game is meh at best, no real flow or focus its just oh look some fallen, now some Vex, Vex are really smart. Oh look some Cabal, cabal strong, cabal smash. Your finished yay.

Yeah apparently the story is a lot better now, with not just better cut scenes but more dialogue in general between characters. Back to Matt Miller from GameInformer....

I feel like the base Destiny game had a great fiction, but it was buried behind anemic storytelling. The Taken King largely resolves that problem, by taking advantage of the fiction at hand, but adds in compelling characters (like more Cayde), intriguing dialogue (like moments where we learn more about the interactions of the Vanguard), and awesome moments (like your first arrival on the Dreadnaught, which I won't spoil too much here.)

That's a roundabout way of saying that I think Destiny's story is moving in a really positive direction, especially because you feel more like your character is the "tip of the spear" in the story.

And while the cinematics are a big part of that, something that I think I haven't talked enough about is how the interstitial conversations during missions themselves are much more oriented to communicating lore, character development, and building excitment

Isn't there still a 100 a week limit on them?
Nope, in TTK there will be no max on how many marks you can earn per week, though there is a limit of 200 you can carry at once. As they are now split over your 3 characters you should in theory hit the limit fairly often, encouraging you to spend the marks rather than just sitting on them like I do now.
