Travel insurance after you are on a trip

Dr House has joined ISIS

RIP

hahah not quite.

a: I'd like to buy an holiday insurance please.
a: Ps, I'm on holiday
b: Click here to pay Sir.

a: Pps, I've broken my legs.

:p

Actually I called one of the companies posted earlier in the thread and they said it takes 2 weeks before they will start cover exactly for this reason.

House, I've emailed you.

Thanks I have got it and I will give them a call.

What amazes me is that you claim to run a business but can't see that there is no way a business can offer travel insurance policies AFTER the trip has started.

It's like signing up for the RAC after you have broken down.

oh wait another house look at me I'm abroad for 90 days bragging thread

I'm surprised no one else notices these.

First it seems there are specialist people who can offer this sort of insurance as suggested in this thread by a couple of very helpful posts.

Second, I was only on holiday for 2 weeks at the start of this trip, then I was in Prague and ended up here in Asia about 4 weeks ago, I was supposed to be here only for a few days but it kept getting extended. There is absolute nothing fun about being away from home for so long, I have a new partner back in Czech who I am desperate to see again, I miss my dog and sitting around in the dirt and heat here is just not my idea of fun.

There seems to be a lot of talk about "Travel" insurance - You are abroad working. This is way outside the realms of "Travel Insurance" and unless you specifically had it in your terms that it would cover you for working then I doubt your policy would have even covered you from the first day you left?

I am uk based so I am covered as long as a trip does not go over 90 days.

Simon, its ok (ish) when I am on wifi but even thats not amazing but its adequate.

Anyway thanks for some of the helpful posts, I will hopefully get this sorted today.

Surely your employer should have sorted this out for you?

What he said.

Your employer sent you somewhere potentially dangerous and should have made all the necessary provisions for your security, health and welfare including covering this activity with their insurance.

If they didn't, it's time to quit and fly home.

already been answered, I am self employed of I would have gone home already.

That makes no sense. If you are your own boss and you're not happy, get your bum on a plane home.

well its not that simple, I had to sort out some issues which are still pending so if I go home I will just end up coming back here a few days later but if I don't manage to fix the insurance I will go home this weekend.

Its funny I have never in my life made a claim on travel insurance but some how the idea of not having it makes me uncomfortable.

It's sods law that as soon as you don't have it something will go wrong - as you say it's about having the peace of mind.

Except places like RAC do let you sign up after you've broken down so they'll come out in that instance.

Wouldn't your travel insurance be void anyway as you are working, or did you take specific insurance to cover working there?

I'd have thought you'd have needed to get public liability etc etc insurance as well if you're working....

Not really the same. RAC will charge you an inflated cost in such an instance which will more than cover their cost of sending the vehicle, versus potential medical bills that can go into millions...
