Women.

Well they might need some slap in case they get on the telly.

Wonder if it occurred before, during or after the safety announcement that nobody ever listens to because it will never happen to them?

Great to see how well the evacuation went - you can train as much as you like, but the real thing is always going to be different.

The women with their handbags, chances are were well within reach as were under their seats and didn't cause a blockage, the 2 men in that middle picture with suitcases which were more than likely in overhead bins? Yeah, that's some stupid moves right there

Safety info would have already been played as it was speeding down the runway when it went up

Yeah the plane would have had somewhere in the region of 120,000 + litres of JetA1 avaition fuel. I wouldn't be hanging around to grab my passport and wallet.

Engine fuel cut-off valve prevents things like that happening.

But the fuel is still on board and is held in the wings. So if the whole planes goes up the fuel into the engine value is rendered useless isn't it?

I only ever refuelled them, never looked into the whole "what happens if it blows up" stuff.

Maybe mid-flight but from the extent of damage in the photos, surely there is a risk of the first spreading?

Correct, the damage to the main fuselage was caused by the wind bowing the engine fire against it, if the fire teams hadn't arrived and put it out it would only have been a matter of time until the whole thing went up (though obviously that kind of goes without saying).

I tend to have my passport in my hand or pocket during the flight, for no other reason than I just used it to get through the gate and I'm too lazy to open my bag to put it back.

Hand luggage could **** right off if the plane went up, I'd be outa there!

Exactly, lean between your legs and grab your bag as you're getting up. Takes no extra time, especially if you're waiting for people to file past and let you out of your seat. Heck, if you have a small bag in the overhead locker you can normally get it out while waiting to get out of your seat (what I usually do on flights anyway).

It's not about time it's about the hazard they cause flying down a slide, cabin crew are taught to tell people to leave their bags, obviously they weren't forceful enough last night

True, then perhaps they didn't think it was as urgent as some on here think.

We will probably never know. ;)

No they were just in a burning plane and could have turned into a disaster very quickly like the Airtours flight at Manchester airport many years ago

Its ridiculous that anyone put their belongings above their and the other passengers safety

I once ran back in to a burning factory to get my sandwiches so...
:p

If my bag is under my seat (potentially on my lap now since the plane has landed), containing my phone, wallet and passport, I think I will take the half a second to reach under my seat and grab it.

Also, the aisles were probably filled with people pushing and shoving their way to the exit. It's not like you could just get up and get right off the plane. I imagine there was a fair bit of waiting around once you were stood up. Imagine trying to get some of those fat American heffers down the evacuation slides.. that's probably a big time sink right there.

I've flown out from Vegas today, we could see the smoke from this from departures. Big plume of smoke and fire engines rushing. We assumed at first that they were just using one of those training rigs you see at airports. We couldn't actually see the aircraft as it was obscured behind buildings. Scary stuff.
