The labour Leader thread...

Link a post you said something postive? I did say that it did not matter if someone agreed with the words but the least someone can do is know the words, i don't think that's a lot to ask from a citizen.

When I am a citizen and not a subject of some outdated dynasty and get to vote for the head of state, I will learn the words to the new anthem.

Anyway Corbyn brings new and exciting views to politics and isn't just another Oxbridge Tory

I don't know the words properly for the 1st verse, let alone the 2nd.

Here is my best effort at the 1st verse, then. Where I can't remember the words I've used artistic license:

God save our noble queeen
Lives in a submarine
God save the queeeeeeeeeeeeen

Visited Toy'R'Us
Happy and glorious
Born to reign over us
God save the queeeeeeeeeeen

I don't care for it frankly. I find it antiquated, and not only that, I don't agree with the words.

Oh bloody hell, there are 6 verses? Just Googled it.

What does that have to do with anything?

You expect everyone who doesn't know the words of the national anthem to emigrate? So that's 99% of the population gone?

Dude, read the post i said that if MrMoonX hates it here so much maybe he should leave and find a country he is happy with because he does nothing but complain.

Showing his true colours by not singing the nation anthem at the service today. It's worse than pathetic and I shudder to think what he might do in future. :(

Typical lefty scum. Although nothing less than I'd expect from those ignorant numbskulls.

And?

This country isn't perfect. People need to complain to highlight where we can improve as a society.

If you only let people stay here who are happy with the status quo, what's the point in anything? Why have a democracy? No point in MPs for a start...

What a ridiculous notion you have.

Did i say it was perfect of course it isn't it's far from perfect, but when someone does nothing but whinge yet does nothing to try and change the things he's whinging about then, then it's a case of put up or shutup. It's like someone complaining about the Tories but not actually bothering to vote.

You haven't been a subject for many years.

Corbyn is just yet another career politician but one whose views you currently share. His republican principles didn't seem enough to stop accepting a seat on the privy council though...

It will be interesting to see what other compromises he is going to have to make and the effect that will have on his supporters.

Blake's Jerusalem is immeasurably superior to God Save the Queen.

I was watching Last Night of the Proms on Saturday night and caught Jonas Kaufmann give an extraordinary performance of Rule Britannia! I was thinking that would be the best national anthem in the world if we had it. I suppose it'd probably offend the bloody French and the rest of the EU though (nations not so blessed as thee).

When Britain fi-i-irst, at heaven's command,
Aro-o-o-ose from out the a-a-a-zure main,
Arose, arose, arose from out the a-azure main,
This was the charter, the charter of the land,
And guardian a-a-angels sang this strain:

Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

The nations, no-o-o-o-ot so blest as thee,
Must i-i-i-i-in their turn, to ty-y--yrants fall,
Must in their turn, to ty-y-rants fall,
While thou shalt flourish, shalt flourish great and free,
The dread and e-e-e-e-nvy of them all.

Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
Rule Britannia!
Britannia rule the waves.
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

The leader of the opposition is always a member of the privy council so its not like he had a choice, unfortunately our system doesn't allow for free thinking. The fact MPs have to take an oath to the queen is ridiculous they work for the people not the monarchy allegedly. However with Charles's meddling democracy what we have is a royal dictatorship

The Queen is our figurehead just like a President would be you're essentially swearing an oath the country. Having a president would have no practical difference apart from having another boring politcian.

Yes the Royal family really does behave like a dictator... i suggest you move to North Korea to experience what a real dictator is like.

no you are swearing an oath to the monarchy, which is wrong, id be happy with an elected president, oh and an elected upper house while we are at it.

Like it or not, if there were a referendum on the Monarchy tomorrow the vote would go in favour of the status quo. You can't disregard the sovereign will (as Mr Salmond likes to put it) of the British people.

I just hope that people in the media feel bad for this though, the level of spin is just ridiculous. That the national anthem "story" is all anyone's reporting on on a day when the conservatives has passed a bill which directly breaks their promise not to cut tax credits.
