Do you Hire cleaners?

Me and the Wife keep it clean between us, her more than me granted but I never do it to her standards anyway!

Some of you only having them in once a fortnight, do you clean between them coming in? Seems like a long time between cleans.

Castle sized houses over there cost the same as a 3 bed semi here :p

This is true to a large degree if you live outside the city, but our city house cost us more over here (equivalent size) than our place did in Bedfordshire.

As I mentioned if you dont sweep or dust every room daily over here your house can get in a state VERY quickly.

a lot of the cleaners are also used for other chores as well. Cleaning the car (again a daily necessity) , going out to buy food and bits, ironing, clothes washing...you name it.

Not sure what the amigafan hatred is for? Rules are rules, what's wrong with getting a student loan if you're eligible? Fair enough if he was taking the biscuit and doing it repeatedly but there are rules to stop you doing that...

There is nothing wrong with taking out a student loan at all if you are eligible, the problem arises if you take out the loan with the knowledge that you are not going to pay it back from the start. That amounts to fraud.

Would like to but I wouldn't be able to trust someone alone in the house.

We have the mother in law as our cleaner so no trust issues. We offered to supplement her pension with a few hundred pounds a month to help her out but she refused to take it. So she offered to clean our house for the money, she didn't feel like a charity case and we have our house cleaned, all is good.

Fraud is a bit of an OTT accusation, if it's just the case he never earns over the threshold to repay the loan, by accident or design, that's just the way it is.

It's only fraud if he earns over the threshold and trys to evade the payments (not declaring income etc)

wondering this also. how much would one pay to trim hedges/ grass etc?

I have a gardener too...(I told you, I'm lazy :p) He charges ~£15-£20 / hr I think

Very common to pay for Gardener, I had a student job as one!

I way prefer gardening to house cleaning, it can be a lot,of fun looking after my vegetable patch, planting flowers etc.

But mowing the lawn and treating it gets very boring so next year I will higher a lawn care specialist. I got some hedges to trim but might just pay a Mexican :D

If someone lends you money it's normally under the agreement you will pay it back, even if it's a student loan, it's given under the agreement that you will make an effort to pay it back when you earn above the threshold. If you know you will never earn above the threshold because you are retired, you undertake a loan knowing you will never pay it back on purpose.

If it's not fraud because of the way the new loans is set up it certainly should be.

Yeah family member would be fine, but a random person who I don't know personally, left to their own devices in the house, I'd just be paranoid I'd come home to things missing. If I was there to supervise, then sure, but I'm only one step from cleaning myself in that situation :p

I would be the same, if it wasn't the fact it was a family member I don't think it would have agreed to it

It's a stupid argument. I could knit my own clothes from my own sheep with wool spun from my own spinning wheel. I don't because I'm lazy/too busy?

My time is better placed elsewhere like with my kids.

I agree, same with car maintenance, I could learn and buy all the tools but i have better things to do.

FYI I don't have a cleaner but I would seriously consider it if I have a family.

Takes me 15min each week to clean my small apartment myself. I guess it's nice to hire someone if you can afford it and have enough work every week for 2 hours worth of cleaning.
