My PC was in standby, I woke it 1 hour ago to resumed browsed internet then about 15 mins later the screen was filled up with small white chessboard and screen gone black. MSI LED light on GPU still on and I heard loud screech sound then quickly powered off PC and noticed something on the back of GPU.

My worse nightmare realised it was my Corsair H80's pump had failed and leaked on GTX 970. I took card out and attempted to clean brown oil off but it peeled off PCB. :(

What is my advice? Can I RMA MSI GTX 970 to OCUK? I will RMA Corsair H80 to Corsair, bought from competitor.

Really wished MSI GTX 970 Gaming came with backplane that would prevent the worst damage of leaks.

As the card was not at fault I don't think you will have any luck Rmaing. Corsair is who you should be talking to as it was there component that failed. If you got the Corsair H80 from Ocuk then there can be no harm in talking to the customer service as you seem to have lost another component through no fault of your own. I seem to remember a few weeks back in a similar thread somebody getting a good out come.

Surely water cooling units like that have a warranty clause where if it leeks and damages other components then the maker of said cooler should reimburse you for lost components. If not then Ppl would be risking far too much buying them and using them if not for that type of cover. So yeah, complain to who u bought the cooler from if oxuk then chat to them in customer section of forums first then if they can't help complain to manufacturer direct but I'd see how retailer goes first as they have business ties to manufacturer which can help more than a customers method of contact with the manufacturer.

That's the main reason I'm running a good old fashioned Noctua heatseat on my 6700k. I tried a h110I GT but the pump noise even at low speed was very annoying, plus you run the risk of a leak happening at any time.

Sure, you may be able to get Corsair to send you a cheque to recuperate a bit of the costs, but it takes weeks of hastle - sending all damaged components back to them, waiting for them to test, waiting for the cheque to arrive, a real hassle.

Similar story with an outcome regarding claims for damage.

I can only get this as compensation for the non corsair products:
Motherboard - $100
CPU - $200
Video Card - $150

Is this correct and the ammounts they will inly pay? Surely it should be the like for like cost?

If this is true im never going aio again. My gpu alone is £500

Just don't accept less, show some proof of cost of parts damaged and argue ur case if they don't budge go to small claims court.

It sure beats getting up at 6 am every day for the next week and going to work knowing all you're doing is earning the money to replace them yourself.

I had a refurbed H100 from OCUK a year or two ago that lasted about a year before the pump stopped pumping, During that time I found it to be a loud cooler that was not great at cooling so although it did no harm during it's stint on a 4770k I moved back to an air cooler which is silent and just as good at it's job which it does without the risk of piddling all over my electronics. And the craziest thing is I've been sat here for the last couple of weeks salivating of this https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-873-EK&groupid=962&catid=1532 Maybe this is a warning to stay away from water.

OP: Sorry for your loss, It sounds like Corsair will cover the majority of the 970 cost but try to politely push for the full amount if you have proof of purchase, Good luck.

damn ! this puts me off from putting one of those thingys in my mitx system ( intel stock cooler currently )

As you see these AIO are not actually 'water cool' but some sort of oil which is not nice for anything it gets on, ive spilled watercooling premix on electronics before including power supply and nothing have been destroyed yet

I heard the company that made the cooler is meant to re-imburse you in these rare situations

Of course, though a better option still is to invest in a top quality Noctua heatsink, that will literally last you a lifetime, and never have to worry about any leaks.

When you upgrade your motherboard in a few years, just sent Noctua your receipt for the heatsink and for the new motherboard, and they'll send you a socket upgrade kit free of charge (to make the old heatsink compatible with whatever latest socket is out).

+1 You should fight and get the parts replaced or get the exact amount of money you need to replace them properly, not a half-arsed amount like they are offering

I have a H100i atm, bought from new, and to be fair its been good as gold. But damn, that EK Predator looks sexy. I'm tempted to change now.

Get on to Corsair, i would be interested to know what they say, i have the same concerns about water CPU coolers potentially leaking, mine is an NZXT KRAKEN but i would still be interested to know how anyone deals with this should mine decide to dump its guts onto my GPU.
