My jacket is killing me, I may as well wear a 5p shopping bag, the 2 little air holes would give me more ventilation!
Recommendations for a new Jacket for Autumn/Winter/Spring? Abitrary budget is £100, though I'd stretch to more if it's totes worth it.
Requirements:
1) Waterproof (or very water resistant)
2) breathable. no more boil-in-the-bag!
3) good visibility. I love the look of the proviz 360, but I tried one on and the fit is awful. Reflective bits and not black will do!
4) Warm but not too warm
I stand by my
DHB EQ2.5, although it's not 'warm' - I just layer up under it in the winter. It's the most breathable (has vents around the body and big pit/bicep adjustable zipped vents), least boil in the bag (2.5 layers helps hugely) and mine, being last years high viz option (with some reflective detailing), it's the most visible for commuting. It might not be fully waterproof for several hours in a torrential downpour, but hardly any jacket will be.
It's vented enough to wear straight over a base/shot sleeve jersey in the ~16 degree spring showers we occasionally see, almost better than a packable (and it does just fit in a jersey pocket, but not really designed for it). I still carry a packable/gilet rather than it on leisure rides 'with a chance of showers'.
It doesn't need to measure resistance as that is a known power curve for your trainer (if you use the specified resistance setting). Cadence isn't required at all, neither is heart rate and your on screen speed is a calculation using your calculated power, weight and current gradient on the course.
Yeah but what I'm trying to say is - it uses cadence and speed to calculate that zpower, it's not just done from speed alone.
What do we think of patterned bar tape? I'm thinking of getting some black and blue for my pompino.
I bought some
blue/black (almost camo like design) a while ago for my turbo bike and never used it, yours if you want it mate? Can take a pic when home.
I think I need to get a light with more range though... 5m or so in front was fine but suddenly seeing deer eyes light up at the side of the road was a little unsettling!
Quite heavy rain here for my commute home last night, my Volt400 was ok (most of my ride is on semi-lit roads) but I think I would want more than 400 lumen for fog& rain combo/longer commute in heavy rain. Although poor visibility from foggy glasses/rain on lenses caused me more problems than lack of light... I'm wearing a cap under my helmet to provide some protection, but I think it's increased the fogging (previously wore headbands/helmet covers).
I was actually going to mention that the rain was a lot less severe than I was expecting...
Thankfully 'dry' here this morning, typical last night at 5 (when I'm paid to!) it was clear... By the time I'd sorted all the c*ap out on my desk & got changed, around 5:30, it was hammering it down and got heavier!
Sportful Fiandre R&D Norain bibshorts were incredible, so much so my gloves, head & neoprene overshoes were the wettest parts of me. Chuffed is an understatement! They were perfect this morning too (6 degrees), where I've been wearing 'normal' bibshorts (with roubaix tights over them) other mornings. I'm going to keep both pairs (£70 for one pair from Evans', £50 for the second from Bikeinn) rather than sending 1 back as I can see me using them for commuting, which wasn't the original aim!
