**** The Official Google Nexus 6P Thread ****

I tend to hold phones around the bottom / rest them on my lap when sat on train etc. Having headphone jack at the bottom would be a real pita as it would get in the way. It's fine at the top - just means flipping the phone round when removing from pocket which is no big deal IMO.

I have two questions I was hoping some people with stock android could help with:

1. How do you have a homescreen with no icons? I have my favorite apps in folders along the bottom so don't need anything else on the screen. If I try this, android deletes the page and uses my second page as the homescreen (full of widgets).

2. Does anyone know how to get more than 4 icons in the favorites along the bottom?

Sounds like you need a different launcher, try nova launcher or check out some videos on YouTube to fill you in.

Exactly! A ;launcher is an app, it can permanently replace the stock launcher by being set as default. It surprises me people will be against this notion, yet will happily replace the stock SMS app, image viewer, browser etc etc - These are all exactly the same principle.

Aimed at people in general of course, not anyone in particular. You choose Android for this very reason! You should be embracing the choices on offer.

Will give it a go - just feels like a more fundamental change, but of course no different than the examples you give.

The other thing that is missing, Whatsapp used to have a number on the icon that shows how many messages I had. Its gone on Marshmallow, anyone know how to get it back?

Google Now Launcher does not have unread counts, you must have been using something else previously?

Not supported with the Google Now launcher, other manufacturer launchers like Samsung/LG etc do as well as you guessed it 3rd party launchers :D

Was on Samsung, so that explains it. Does Nova have read counts?

Edit: Just seen reply above, definitely time to try a launcher

Nova does, you just gotta install the unread count badge plugin for it (free).

Sorry for turning this into a bit of an Q&A, but is there a plugin that would allow you to have 'pop-up' widgets.

I.e. have the widget shrunk to a single 1x1 icon and then when you click it, it would open to full size?

Action launcher supports this, but doesn't have a traditional app drawer.

Thanks mrk for the Nova launcher tip. Was a bit reluctant at first to change it but it fixed the issue and I think I like it better. Only niggle is thay from home screen, saying ok Google brings up Google bow instead of the box for further questions/directions.

If I'm being honest I'd prefer the headphone jack to be at the bottom, and that's purely because of the fingerprint sensor. For me the FP is in a perfect spot when you put your phone top first into pocket, but when I have headphone attached I like to put phone bottom in first, makes it a small pain to access the FP then. All my own opinion etc.

Mine has an annoying problem on the screen. There's some sort of coating on the glass (oleophobic perhaps), and it's not been lined up correctly at the top. This means there's a patch around the earpiece speaker and a line along each of the top and right edges of the phone which doesn't have the same reflectivity. It's an annoying thing that once seen cannot be unseen. I'll try to get a photo, but I think it'll be tricky to get the lighting right to show it.

Having two phones sent by accident is now a blessing, as I think I'll return the above one as defective (hoping the second, currently unopened one, is in better nick).

I was reading the 6P sub reddit last night about compatible cables, chargers etc. Some guy said he had one, which showed it was fast charging, gave a screenshot and a link to the forest.

But that Google employee has since, reviewed that cable, and said it wasn't up to spec. So what's the deal. Just stick to official Google products until 3rd party ones become more readily available? It's a tad confusing for me.
