Borderlands 2 worth getting?

You aren't, I agree with you. I loved the first game, thought it was fresh and loved the graphics and the guns you could get. It was amazing. I thought the second one was a good game but just thought it was the first one with extra loot. Most of the loot is just the exact same with minor stat differences. Getting a good gun in BL2 just didn't give the same buzz as it did in the first one. And a lot of my friends feel the same way.

To the OP, if you didn't like Borderlands 1 then you probably won't like BL2. But if you are getting it really cheap, then why not try and see.

yep, same here.

He is definitely still outnumbered. There will always be exceptions.

BL2 is way more than just 'BL1 + more loot' anyways. Four entirely new classes with different abilities. Entirely new skill trees to go along with them. The game is larger, has more areas, with more variety in areas(BL1 was just brown the whole way through basically). There are loads of new enemy types.

I mean yea, it still retains the Borderlands formula, but I dont see why that somehow makes the game worse. Sounds more like a problem with your expectations than it actually being a worse game. I think it improves on the original in just about every way. Hence, it is a better game. Most people agree.

You believe what you need to believe man.

But if you ever want to face the truth, just go and read just about any BL2 review or go to the Steam page and check out the user reviews and see what they almost all say about it in comparison to the first game.

You are entitled to feel differently, but you are definitely in a small minority. There's nothing wrong with that so I'm not sure why you're being so defensive about it.

Thats musty snugglebite's badonkadonk. she's ma main squeeze. Lady's got a gut like fulla' dynamite and a booty like POW!!

Now only does this game have some of the best characters in the history of video games but it also has really nice shooting mechanics.

I only just picked it up tonight but so far I quite like it. Never played it before so wasn't sure what to expect. Still trying to get my head around the weapons/boosts/perks/shields :(.

Add me on Steam (link in sig) and I'll give you some pointers tomorrow :)

Mynight I'll play along if you need someone. :) I have different level people.

Basically, if memory serves, Weapons go White, Blue, Green, Purple and Orange for Legendary.

You make it sounds like it's a competition that you don't want to lose. That people who like BL1 are wrong and their opinion on BL2 doesn't matter as there is clearly something wrong with their heads to think that.

It's not so cut and dried as you think, there has been a lot of debate on forums about which game is better and there is a lot of love for BL1. It's not the small minority that you make it out to be. The majority of my friends prefer BL1.

BL2 is a great game, but I like BL1 better. BL2, on paper is a better game, has better locations, better story, more loot and some brilliant characters. But for me it lost something from the original. Everything feels a bit forced. There is so much loot that it becomes meaningless. You are just picking up guns that have slightly better stats then the one you just had. After the first run through it just becomes a bit of a grind. Farming bosses to try and get a really unique weapon.

BL1 was unique. The graphics really suited the story. It's supposed to be a drab world. There was real mystery about opening chests, finding rare guns felt awesome. Combat was much better, even if you hadn't the most up to date weapons you could still make a go if you were skillful enough. Whereas in BL2 if you don't have the best gear, you die. In BL1 I have had some amazing, adrenaline filled, heart pumping fights against baddies that I should have died in but somehow managed to survive. I haven't had the same experiences in BL2, it has felt more like a war of attrition than of actual skill.

Sure loads of people prefer BL2, and I can understand why. It's an amazing game. But lots of people like BL1 more and I can see their point of view as well.

Nope, never said or implied anything like that.

The reason I was discussing it was because this is about a recommendation for *somebody else* and whether they should play it. I have no problem with somebody liking BL2 less(honestly), but when it is a minority opinion, and it is, then I think it's bad advice to tell somebody else they shouldn't play it based on what a smaller amount of people think. Logically, if more people think it is worth playing than not, then there's a reasonable chance the OP will be glad to get the recommendation to actually play it. It's obviously no guarantee, but it would also be a shame if he missed out on something he'd love just because he listened to the minority dissenters, ya know?

Or to put it another way, if I didn't like a game but I know most other people did, I would not tell somebody they shouldn't play it. Like Uncharted games. I think they're boring as hell. But if somebody asked me if they should check them out, I'd unequivocally say "Yes, you should" because I know most people do seem to like them a lot.

It is fairly cut and dry. The old 'well my friends thought' is a common and convenient piece of anecdotal evidence, but seriously, go read the reviews of the game. Go read the thousands of Steam user reviews, too. The concensus is generally that BL2 is definitely the better game. You even say it is the on-paper better game.

As for you liking the combat in the first one better, that's probably just down to luck and whether you've managed to find some good weapons or not, or even what type of weapons you go into encounters with as the huge variety of enemies often are weak or resistant to certain projectile types. I never noticed this at all. I could certainly play through BL2 without needing the best guns. I think I used a SHIFT key like two or three times and I had like 20 of them. I never farmed/grinded for any of the special legendaries, either.

I do think BL2 was a bit tougher overall playing solo. I felt like in BL1, it was easy to become overleveled if you did sidequests, whereas in BL2, it's somewhat necessary to do *some* sidequests before moving onto the next main story quest. Which I think is a better system, as BL1 basically punishes you for doing all or most of the sidequests by being overleveled afterwards, making the next main quest and subsequent areas too easy. I can see liking the BL1 system better if you didn't like doing many sidequests, though. BL2 would definitely be very tough if you didn't.

Who said they shouldn't play it?
Your first couple comments seemed to be trying very hard to dissuade the OP calling it a letdown and then responding to the first person who said it was a better game, replying that "No, it was far worse" or something like that.

Didn't want OP to get the wrong impression.

Nah, just saying that in comparison to the first, like I said later on, I have over 80 hours in it so it can't be all bad :)
