**** Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Thread ****

Anyone hearing coil whine when the fan is off? It's a little bit annoying in really quiet environments.

When I'm in a very quiet room then yes, I can here it slightly. Not as bad as the coil whine my previous graphics card produced on the other hand...

Guys the dock arrived for my Book today. Don't pay the silly MS price as one can be had from the UK for £139.99.

I'd like to know similar, but I don't have the surface 3 just like to know if the 4 is really worth it over the 3? I will only be browsing the internet nothing stressing.

I would say that if buying brand new, the Pro 4 is worth it over the Pro 3. The Pro 4 is my first Surface device, but I have played around with a Pro 3 before. The 4 has a much better screen, the pen is better, latest processor architecture, less thermal throttling, Windows Hello (facial recognition), thinner, ever so slightly lighter and now comes in a fanless version, which I'm guessing would be best for your needs (Core M3, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD).

However, if you're looking at the second hand market, then the Pro 3 might be the better buy for you as the price jump is quite steep. If going brand new, I'd say Pro 4.

I think even the normal Surface 3 will be enough for browsing.

From the Pro 3 to Pro 4, I don't think it's worth it unless the throttling issue really does hamper down on whatever you're doing. The i7 version also has Iris graphics which gives a nice boost to the GPU, if you do play some games every now and then.

i'll echo this!

Has anyone tried using the charger to charge both their SP4 and a phone? I just realised it can't seem to charge both at the same time...

Mine can charge a phone, but Surface LED flashes if I try something too high drain like a tablet.

Moto G 3rd Gen charges at the same time.

Nexus 9 won't.

Guess it depends on the phone or how flat the Surface is ?

Ah that could be it, I'm trying to charge a OP2, doesn't have quick charging but it does charge fast if I use a charger that supports higher amps.

And I left my external battery pack at home today as well... oh well :p. Using a USB mouse as well on the SP4, guess I should've grabbed my USB hub.

Will it charge without the Surface plugged in? Might be less drain.

Hmm now that you mentioned it, it doesn't. The charging light on my phone still flashes on and off, even with the SP4 disconnected. On the USB port on the SP4 it charges just fine.

Not sure I have any devices that doesn't require that much amps... maybe my smartwatch...
