Paul it's hard to tell on your picture but I found this on my modern system:
I found when replacing my FD cable that different 'sides' of the screw which fastens it to the FD made a huge difference!
With mine on the right side (when looking from the rear, so I guess the cable in counter-clockwide orientation around the screw) the pull was 'forced' so much and the pull from the cable/shifter that it was like 'all or nothing' and stretched a cable within a few days so it wouldn't shift. It felt good initially as the pull was so strong, but soon deteriorated.
With the cable on the correct left-side of the screw (clockwise orientation when viewing from rear) the angle (even though it is very slight) was enough to have smoother slightly-easier shifting, less tension on the cable and longer alignment/drastically reduced cable stretch in a short space of time. The FD moved steadier and wasn't 'thrown' as much into the limit screws.
Big/big and small/small rub most systems, there is a half index/shift on my 5800 to combat it slightly as obviously an 11 speed cassette is quite wide! Understand most guys 'adjust' depending how they ride, I use my lowest gears more so adjusted to eliminate all small/small rub, but does mean my big/small rubs a little still.
