Assetto Corsa

I wouldn't know, as I never race against AI these days:D
Guess AC has come along pretty well in that regard. I remember playing a pre-release version of pcars and being quite impressed by the AI - Something that certainly wasn't the case with AC at the time.

Apart from the handling, laserscanned tracks and the AI that is quite fast, yet respectful of your lines, for me the big selling feature of AC are its street cars:
Ferrari, Lambo, BMW (M1, M3, M4, Z4), Lotus (Elise, Exige, Evora), Audi (Quattro and now the R8), RuF, Merc... its fantastic that the hardcore racing game is not purely or even mostly about hard core race cars.

Graphics, sound, singleplayer career and out of the box content go to pcars.
Handling/ffb and lots of mod content go to Assetto.

Not so sure about the sounds myself, I prefer a lot of the sounds on AC.

Especially the Lotus 98T, listen to both of them on either game, AS sounds much better. Especially when boosting, and at 100% boost it's crazy :D

And don't forget, AC has the Mobility Scooter! :D (as a download)

Also if anyone knows of a Supra or Skyline that sounds REAL and the blow off valve activates when it should (not at silly 3K RPM) please link it, wracking my brains looking for one.

Well the *behavior* of the AI in Assetto Corsa is still not perfect. Project Cars has some issues as well(honestly, every sim does) when it comes to this, but I'm talking in terms of pure competitiveness. I'm often seconds(plural) faster than the fastest AI in Project Cars for most cars/tracks after about 10-15 minutes practice, while in Assetto Corsa, I'm often battling just to get to the podium at 100% difficulty.

What makes AC special is how *good* the street cars are in terms of handling and feel. They are almost all absolutely top notch, with tons of love and care put into each and every one of them to get them feeling just right(or as close as the physics engine will get them).

Got my G29 today (Amazon sale, £179.99!) and fired up AC for the first time. Not played a racing game since PCars beta with my old DFGT.
Fantastic fun, even though it took me a while to sort the controls out. For some reason all the axis needed inverting for the G29.

Same here with my CSP v1's.

Those lightning sales can be tasty eh? Managed to grab a T300RS for £200 the other day and it's quite a nice upgrade from a rickety old CSR :)

Thinking of buying this as its on steam sale at the mo, but have a few question which I would be grateful if anyone could answer.

1) Would this be a better buy over Project Cars? I prefer sim, and all I read is PC isn't quite as good as a sim.

2) Apparently the game has a poor feel of speed, and driving aat 120mph feels like 30mph, how true is that?

3) I don't have a wheel nor do I want one as I'm a casual gamer, will that massively effect the gaming experience and would I be wasting my time playing with a controller?

Cheers

1) Yes

2) A bit, but tarting up the graphics with a pp filter helps and tbh doing 170 mph in the P1 round the ring feels like doing 170mph in a P1 round the ring...

3) Yeah, you do need a wheel to get the full benefits of the game

^What he said, though I'd also add that your FOV and camera choice will affect the sense of speed.

EDIT:
As for preferring sim and not using a wheel. Good luck with that :)
There aren't many that can compete with a pad on this game. In fact, I've noticed that a lot of guys using pads in public lobbies are all over the place (You can tell they're using pads by their car/wheel movement).

You may be better off with Pcars tbh. I don't think that AC really suits the casual racer using a pad if you want to go online.

Some shots of last night's Porsche 991 supercup action @ Road America :) (URD Darche)

Well I caved and got dream pack 2 - kinda wished I hadn't as not a fan of any of the cars really...

Loving the R8 though. There's a good supercar server up, 12C, 458, R8, GTR etc and the R8 falls behind on the straights but rinses on the corners. Makes a great noise as well

Yeah, I wasn't a huge fan of the cars in DP2 either. The Audi is ok.
The GT40 is quite interesting and could be good in a classic/historic series.

Oh, I quite like the PP filter included in the Paul Ricard track pack. The tracks, not so much :p Though the WTCC variant is ok.

Where do we find the sparse grid SS setting? /noob

People say to use NV inspector, but when I tried it, NVI looks nothing like the screenshots, with far less options.
Is it with an older version or something?

I haven't researched the NVI SGSS settings (yet!) but I think it's this

PS Just don't forget to turn off FXAA in game options, it blurs the details.

Right, the problem is that I don't know how to get to that window lol. I've got 1.9.7.3.
All I get is a GPU-Z looking window with an additional overclocking settings page.

What are you using instead of NVI?
