In nature male lions also kill and eat cubs that don't belong to them.

So by that logic human males should start going around killing children they don't like the look of

That is a bizarre leap to make. I didn't suggest we were lions, so why would we aim to mimic their behaviour? I was just pointing out that the fatties who refuse to get healthy will be pruned by natural factors. The life expectancy of an obese person is shorter than that of a healthy bodies person.

I can't believe how narrow minded people can be! There are plenty of skinny people who will end up costing the NHS £1000's because of unhealthy lifestyles. And what about all those super healthy fitness freaks who are constantly attending their GP's due to sports related injuries and costing the NHS £1000's in their pursuit of good health!

I seriously wish the idiots behind this scheme would engage their brain before coming up with schemes like this!

I think you taking my joke literally is the bizarre part.

Regardless, your point is irrelevant. We as modern day humans live in a completely and utterly different World than animals do, or than humans did not that long ago. This goes for thin people as well as fat ones. No longer does someone have to hunt for their food, they simply click a mouse button and it arrives at their door within hours.

And yes being obese you screw yourself up health wise. It's stupid to be overweight. It has absolutely no benefits whatsoever. I never said it did. I simply stated that shaming someone into losing weight very rarely works and is usually counterproductive and quite cruel

to be fair obesity is a bigger health issue than people playing sport

This wasn't an issue until it became the NHS costing money topic. Likewise before the recession. Hardly anyone cared people were getting benefits or squandering money.

Ahh yes, hit em in the wallet and see how they react. I'm sure the numbers and figures arguments must be miles long.

Sad thing is whats really costing both of these problems is people milking a system set up with noble intent for their own benefit, if folk wouldn't do that then maybe we could have nice things.

We seem to have developed a culture where we all want to be pals. Due to social media. Personally I've never understood the bullying from online. Threats, yes but you can slowly work out where they're bluffing.

Sadly there will always be those that are easily manipulated for the worst outcome.

Yeah, i feel thankful for being just old enough to be pre explosion of the internet and computing giving me a grounding in reality, sad to think the younger generations will grow up thinking its normal.

Your leaders are not any better. It stinks right to the top. I'd love to see all the politicians on performance related pay.

You're probably right, but a few folks I know have cost the health service £1000's as a result of sports related injuries.

How long, I wonder will it be before stats regarding the cost of treating sports related injuries start to be published and sports people start to be targeted in the same way as smokers, drinkers and the obese!!!

Don't forget the documentaries.

I would have to agree with you on this part. I think Marl is over exhaggerating the issue of injury costing the NHS to push his stand point. Where it is documented that heart attacks, diabetes, hypertension etc cause by unhealth lifestyle is one of the largest cost. £1000's does not come close to the millions.
Some sports injuries might cost via surgery but they by no means outweight the huge on going cost of drugs and gp appointments made by the fat.

None the less, imo it is not the business of the general public to be point this out, it is the governments. Which to be fair they have done, just with a very very soft touch. 5 a day, more exercise adverts etc etc.
What needs to be done instead is a bit more firm, i.e Supermarket/food manufactorer legislation, forced training of the obese or just putting more money into sports or fitness based events in the local area to get children and adults out of the house and off the xbox.

you'll probably find that the health benefits from people taking part in sport outweigh the costs of treating people who sustain injuries

ergo it will carry on being promoted as a good thing

no reason why a group that doesn't like obesity can't get a message across - though bullying individuals on the tube is out of order

they could take out advertising and might need to moderate their message - I don't think it would be acceptable to state they hate fat people for example

Yeah that's what I mean. Being rude only makes people do the complete opposite, and even probably exacerbate their mental issues.
The soft hand doesn't seem to be working, but I my main issue isn't the fat people it's the government wasting money on stuff we don't need, when they should be creating more places or more facilities for people to have fun exercising.
There is nothing to do in this country, but go to restuarants or cinemas. Since it rains so much, people stay and and get fat.

Yes, I have no doubt it will!

But, in the long run (forgive the pun) if people live longer as a result of healthy lifestyle will they really save the state money.

After all, the longer one lives then the greater will be the costs of pensions, treatment for age-related illnesses and care in the community.

That's what worries me about the topic of this thread, its all too easy to attack those who cannot defend themselves - what group will be next?
