Playstation 2 games on PS4.

Games, New Releases then scroll over 3-5 times and there will be Final Fantasy VII and Playstation 2 Classics right next to each other.

Found it! Thanks!

Oi vey, could they have hid that any better? You'd think they'd have it flashing on the front screen. Or maybe their already feeling the backlash from angry players and want to downplay it

I'd be interested in picking up Dark Cloud as I remember that being excellent, hopefully they'll do the second one too; but I'll wait as I can see these games being easy to put on sale.

Eurogamer have done some analysis of these and have confirmed that there are regional differences to these new releases as they are actually based on the version of the game to release in each region. This means we will get the PAL version of the game.

In the case of GTA, the PAL version ran at 25fps compared with the NTSC version which ran at 30fps. When this is being played through the PS4 emulator it is forcing the PAL version to run at 30fps and it does this by blending frames together (basically creating new frames to make up for the missing ones) and in doing so it creates an unfortunate judder effect. It's not unplayable but it's far from ideal.

So essentially if you're thinking of buying any PS2 games it would be best to buy the NTSC version from a US PSN account. Fortunately there is no region locking.

If you buy it on the US store, do you need to play it through your USA account to get the benefit?

I have to say the Playstation store on the PS4 itself is pretty poorly laid out. The Microsoft store on the Xbox One is much. This isn't the first time I've had difficulty in finding something on the PS4 store.

Not surprised with the prices though. It would be nice if Sony incorporated support for old disc based games like they do on the Xbox One and just download a patched version to run on the PS4 but I doubt that'll happen.

So these games only play at 50hz or at 25/50fps?

Fairly significant difference. One literally slows the game down, the other is just a lower framerate.

It's more complex than that.

From the analysis from Digital Foundary, it appears to be the PAL version which originally ran at 25fps having 5 extra frames "blended" effectively creating 5 new frames which has lead to juddering.

In regards to 50/60Hz

I'm not entirely sure, I'm sure 60Hz is the output of the PS4 so possibly that?

Regardless the PAL versions of these games were coded differently due to the 50/60 difference from the NTSC versions. Hence the frame difference.

That is what is causing the issues I believe.

As above so if buying then getting it from the American store would be the better choice, that and the prices should be cheaper too.

Can you play games bought from the American store on a UK machine?

Yeah, just buy it and make sure it's set as a primary console and you'll be able to play any region game through your UK PSN account. I've done the same with both Uncharted Collection, Last of Us and a few other games i've bought from them via the sales.

You just need to make sure you use PSN cards to fund the accounts.
