** Star Wars Episode VII - SPOILERS WITHIN **

Toy Story 2
Dark Knight
Terminator 2
Godfather Part 2
Aliens
Desperado
Before Sunset
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Mission Impossible sequels
Harry Potter Sequels

You can make a case for either , an exception would be one or two but there are MANY MANY better sequels out there so to make a sweeping statement to say the 1st one is always better just make your point of view seem unfounded.

Terminator 2 is not better though...your basing your opinion on production value not story....

Quick look at the rest and I'm still bang on TBH.

Your opinion is unfounded.

T2 is better, in my opinion because it has everything in the original, expanded it, added a great twist, it grabbed my attention through out, it is everything T1 was and more.

Pointless. You've made your point, you didn't like it. You don't need to carry on and pick everyone apart for enjoying it. Thinking you have some sort of superiority over everyone for it.

Easyrider is entitled to an opinion, like everyone else. His is just wrong. :P

Joking aside. I think that what JJ has managed to do here is wipe out the sins of the 'prequel' trilogy, aka episodes 1,2 & 3 and restore the faith in the franchise.

Some of these points require a bit of a leap of faith plotwise, but then what film doesn't, especially in Sci-Fi, but on the whole I found it a thoroughly enjoyable film, and certainly one of the best films this year.

Is it better than the original trilogy, no. I think it still has the potential to be AS good as the original trilogy. However, it is off to a damn fine start.

I think what Raymond says is pretty accurate regarding the film, it took the template of A new hope, expanded it, added some great twists and made it in my opinion just as great as a new hope.

JJ basically did to Star Wars: The Force Awakens what T2 did to T1. In my opinion.

I agree that Chewies reaction to Hans death probably could have been emphasised a bit better, but given that what they were trying to do at the time, given that the First Order were about to fire the weapon, he had to move on.

He did what he could at the time, injure kylo, take out some storm troopers, clear their exit and detonate the bombs.

He was seen grieving for his fallen best friend later, after the fight had been won.

I found the pacing of the film to be great with a pretty much perfect balance.

Even though I knew what would happen to Han the minute he left to go on that mission, I was still blown away that they actually did it.

Oh look it's the biggest film buff in the world easyrider again. Just let people enjoy the moment, if they felt this was the best Star Wars film let them express it. Don't just shoot them down with your better than thou attitude, it stinks tbh.

Yup, he always has to be right.

I enjoyed it. A lot. Try take that away from me.

It's like trying to tell children they can't like certain toys because he dislikes them.

The world can't have different opinions clearly.

Making bold statements like " it's the best SW film ever" is just as arrogant as saying it's not .

Something I haven't said...

Not once have I said TFA IS THE WORST SW FILM EVER.

FWIW, I like it a lot better the second time around. I was too critical and expectant of the actors, the story, and the events first time.

Ironically there were parts in the 2nd screening where I was thinking "corr, I wish I was watching this for the first time".

You don't voice an opinion ...you post statements with no clear foundations to back them up....I've told you why it's not the best SW film...you haven't even tried to tell me why it is...

Since when is story the entire reason how a movie is judged on? What about execution, acting, pacing, editing, direction ?

Who said anything about production value being the absolute criteria in those movies i have listed.

When did I mention about them having higher production value?

Wait, read back again, nope I didn't, unless you just assumed it?

One doesn't judge a book on the look of its font...

Highlander has the worse special fx...the worst acting ....but it's one of the best films ever made...

It has character and story and depth...

The acting is better.

The pacing is better.

The story is the same ! Yes, the same. It pretty much picked the best from 4-6 and used it here. Is that not allowed?

I will leave out things like set design, editing, sound, visual (even if its a Science Fiction and not Pride and Prejudice) which by the way, all have an impact how good a movie is as it takes the audience into that world.

For more info, I am sure you've read the other thread.
